تحكي وثائق عديدة عن معجزة النور المقدس في أورشليم، وعدد كبير من المؤرّخين والرحالة تناولوها، وعلى سبيل الذكر لا الحصر، البيروني وابن الأثير. فالإثنان يعبّران عن تعجّبهما لما رأيا من ظهور للنور المقدّس في عيد النصارى في القدس. كما تحكي وثائق أخرى عن حضور الأمير صلاح الدين الأيوبي لهذا الاحتفال وتهيّبه لما رأى. أقدم النصوص التي تتناول وصف هذا الحدث يعود للقرن الرابع. وفيما تتميز المعجزات عامةً باستحالة تحديد زمانها ومكانها وشروط حدوثها، فإن هذه المعجزة معروف زمانها ومكانها ومجرى حصولها. ومع تطور وسائل النقل في الزمان الحديث صارت تُنقَل شعلة منها إلى بعض الدول الأرثوذكسية ليُصار إلى استعمالها في الاحتفال بصلاة الفصح أو ما نسمّيه “الهجمة”.

أريد أن أورد كلام البطريرك الأرثوذكسي ذيذوروس الذي يقول: “أركع أمام الحجر الذي وضع عليه جسد المسيح الطاهر بتقوى، وأواصل الصلاة بخوف وتقوى، وهي صلاة كانت وماتزال تتلى، وعندها تحدث أعجوبة انبثاق النور المقدس ( النار المقدسة) من داخل الحجر المقدس الذي وضع عليه جسد المسيح الطاهر.
