Para ellos, la cruz es s\u00edmbolo de sufrimiento, muerte y verg\u00fcenza. En la Biblia se afirma que el que cuelga en la cruz es maldecido por Dios (Deuteronomio 21:23). A\u00f1aden: Si alguien mata a alguien querido, \u00bfhonramos la herramienta con la que fue asesinado?<\/p>\n<p>La Iglesia ha afrontado este problema desde el principio. San Pablo, en su primera carta a los Corintios, dice: \u201cPorque la palabra de la cruz es locura para los que se pierden, pero para nosotros, los que nos salvamos, es poder de Dios\u201d (1,32).<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>En cuanto al evangelista Juan, para \u00e9l la cruz ya no era s\u00f3lo dolor y humillaci\u00f3n, sino que se convirti\u00f3 en s\u00edmbolo de la gloria de Dios. Cristo describe su subida a la cruz como elevaci\u00f3n, gloria y victoria sobre el pecado y la muerte, y con en la cruz elevar\u00e1 a la humanidad a su Padre: \u201cPero Jes\u00fas les respondi\u00f3, diciendo: Ha llegado la hora de que el Hijo del Hombre sea glorificado\u201d. De cierto, de cierto os digo, que si el grano de trigo no cae en la tierra y muere, queda solo. Pero si muere, dar\u00e1 mucho fruto... Y si soy levantado de la tierra, atraer\u00e9 a todos hacia m\u00ed. Esto dijo, indicando de qu\u00e9 muerte estaba a punto de morir\u201d (Juan 12:24-33).<\/p>\n<p>La reverencia de la Iglesia a la cruz no se debe s\u00f3lo a que \u201cel cuerpo de Cristo santific\u00f3 el madero de la cruz\u201d - seg\u00fan expresi\u00f3n de San Juan Damasceno - sino a que con la muerte de Cristo en la cruz comenz\u00f3 el proceso de salvaci\u00f3n y la cruz se convirti\u00f3 en un s\u00edmbolo de salvaci\u00f3n. La muerte de Cristo en la cruz significa la muerte y resurrecci\u00f3n del viejo mundo y el comienzo del nuevo tiempo de transformaci\u00f3n. A trav\u00e9s de la cruz tuvo lugar la reconciliaci\u00f3n entre el hombre y Dios: \u201caboliendo con su cuerpo la ley de los mandamientos en estatutos, para crear en s\u00ed mismo un hombre nuevo, haciendo la paz, y reconciliando a los dos en un solo cuerpo con Dios, mediante la cruz, haciendo morir las enemistades que hab\u00eda en ella\u201d (Efesios 2:15-16).<\/p>\n<p>En el Libro del Apocalipsis hay una unificaci\u00f3n entre los m\u00e1rtires y Cristo: \u201cSus cad\u00e1veres estar\u00e1n en la calle de la gran ciudad que en sentido espiritual se llama Sodoma y Egipto, donde tambi\u00e9n nuestro Se\u00f1or fue crucificado\u201d (Apocalipsis 11:8). Esto es lo que Cristo pide a todos sus seres queridos: \u201cEl que quiera venir en pos de m\u00ed, que tome su cruz y s\u00edgame\u201d (Mateo 16,24). La cruz que lleva el cristiano es signo de su abandono del pecado, y al mismo tiempo la cruz es signo de gloria y honor para \u00e9l: \u201cSi alguno me sirve, s\u00edgame, y donde yo estoy, all\u00ed mi siervo tambi\u00e9n ser\u00e1, y si alguno me sirve, el Padre le honrar\u00e1\u201d (Juan 12:26).<\/p>\n<p>La Iglesia ha expresado la importancia de la Cruz en su vida y en la vida de todos los creyentes. La cruz se convirti\u00f3 en fuente de vida eterna, gloria de los m\u00e1rtires y puerto de salvaci\u00f3n: por ella Satan\u00e1s fue sacudido y el pecado fue aniquilado. En la oraci\u00f3n de v\u00edsperas de la Fiesta de la Exaltaci\u00f3n de la Cruz leemos: \u201cAl\u00e9grate, oh Cruz que llevas la vida, puerta del Para\u00edso, firmeza de los creyentes y muro de la Iglesia, por donde la corrupci\u00f3n ha desaparecido y ha sido destruida\u201d. abolido, el poder de la muerte ha sido tragado, y hemos sido resucitados de la tierra a los lugares celestiales. T\u00fa eres el arma contra la cual no se puede luchar y resistir a los demonios, ya que eres la gloria de los m\u00e1rtires y de los justos... y el puerto de salvaci\u00f3n que concede al mundo la
