Es uno de los doce disc\u00edpulos del Se\u00f1or Jesucristo y se le llama el Gemelo. Se conoce en el Evangelio de Juan, en particular, por tres situaciones: La primera es despu\u00e9s de que vino un mensajero y le dijo al Maestro que L\u00e1zaro estaba enfermo, Jes\u00fas quer\u00eda ir a \u00e9l, pero sus disc\u00edpulos se opusieron, diciendo: \u201cMaestro , ahora los jud\u00edos ped\u00edan que te apedrearan y que t\u00fa tambi\u00e9n fueras all\u00ed\u201d. Jes\u00fas les dijo: \u201cNuestro amado L\u00e1zaro... ha muerto... vayamos a \u00e9l\u201d. Entonces Tom\u00e1s dijo: \u201cVayamos tambi\u00e9n nosotros a morir con \u00e9l\u201d. Esta posici\u00f3n indica la devoci\u00f3n del Ap\u00f3stol por seguir a Jes\u00fas y ser testigo de la obra de Dios, y su ser un hombre de coraz\u00f3n que no ve las cosas con los ojos de una mente r\u00edgida, sino que las ve con ternura.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
En cuanto a la segunda situaci\u00f3n, en el cap\u00edtulo 41, donde el Se\u00f1or dijo a sus disc\u00edpulos: \u201cEn la casa de mi Padre muchas moradas hay... voy a preparar lugar para vosotros... y sabr\u00e9is a d\u00f3nde voy, y conocer\u00e1s el camino\u201d. Tambi\u00e9n aqu\u00ed Tom\u00e1s habl\u00f3 con sencillez: \u201cSe\u00f1or, no sabemos ad\u00f3nde vas, entonces, \u00bfc\u00f3mo podremos saber el camino?\u201d Jes\u00fas le dijo: Yo soy el camino, la verdad y la vida". Entendemos que Tom\u00e1s es una persona realista, sensual, que busca comprensi\u00f3n y no quiere que las palabras del Maestro pasen desapercibidas. Entonces pregunta y aclara.<\/p>\n
La tercera posici\u00f3n est\u00e1 representada por la insistencia del Mensajero en colocar su mano en el costado del Maestro. En el cap\u00edtulo 20, Tom\u00e1s estaba ausente cuando Jes\u00fas, resucitado de entre los muertos, lleg\u00f3 al lugar donde estaban reunidos los disc\u00edpulos. Cuando Tom\u00e1s lleg\u00f3, objet\u00f3 y dijo: \u201cSi no veo la marca de los clavos en su mano y no meto mi dedo en el lugar de los clavos y no meto mi mano en su costado, no creer\u00e9\u201d. Ocho d\u00edas despu\u00e9s, Jes\u00fas vino otra vez y tom\u00f3 la mano de Tom\u00e1s y la puso en su costado, siguiendo las marcas de los clavos, y le dijo: \u201c...No seas incr\u00e9dulo, pero Tom\u00e1s respondi\u00f3 y le dijo\u201d. , \u201cSe\u00f1or m\u00edo y Dios m\u00edo\u201d. Tom\u00e1s, que mostr\u00f3 terquedad, fue aplastado hasta los l\u00edmites extremos del quebrantamiento. Vio a Jes\u00fas en carne y huesos y estuvo seguro de que no era una ilusi\u00f3n. Los Padres dicen de Tom\u00e1s que insist\u00eda en ver al Maestro por a\u00f1oranza de \u00e9l, y esto no es cuesti\u00f3n de duda ni de falta de honestidad.<\/p>\n

Se dice que un rey indio llamado Gundavor decidi\u00f3 construirse un gran palacio como ning\u00fan otro en la tierra, por lo que envi\u00f3 a uno de sus asistentes a buscar trabajadores calificados capaces de hacerlo. Por providencia divina, el mensajero del rey lleg\u00f3 a Tom\u00e1s, quien le dijo que estaba dispuesto a construir tal palacio para el rey con la condici\u00f3n de que le permitiera hacer lo que quisiera. Los dos estuvieron de acuerdo y Thomas viaj\u00f3 a la Tierra del Nahd. All\u00ed, Tom\u00e1s obtuvo una gran cantidad de oro del rey para comenzar a construir el palacio. Tan pronto como Tom\u00e1s abandon\u00f3 el palacio real, distribuy\u00f3 todo el oro que ten\u00eda entre los pobres de la India y comenz\u00f3 a predicar el Evangelio. De alguna manera, el rey recibi\u00f3 la noticia de que Tom\u00e1s a\u00fan no hab\u00eda comenzado a construir el palacio, por lo que lo arrest\u00f3 y lo encarcel\u00f3. Esa noche, el hermano del rey muri\u00f3, y el rey lo llor\u00f3 profundamente. Un \u00e1ngel llev\u00f3 el alma del difunto al Para\u00edso y le mostr\u00f3 un palacio maravilloso que ninguna mente humana podr\u00eda imaginar. Entonces el \u00e1ngel del Se\u00f1or devolvi\u00f3 el alma del hombre a su cuerpo. Cuando el hermano del rey volvi\u00f3 en s\u00ed, corri\u00f3 hacia su hermano y le dijo: "J\u00farame que me dar\u00e1s todo lo que te pido". Entonces el rey jur\u00f3 por eso y le dijo: "Dame". el palacio que tienes en el cielo, que Tom\u00e1s te construy\u00f3\u201d, y le explic\u00f3 todo lo sucedido. Entonces el rey envi\u00f3 y liber\u00f3 a Tom\u00e1s de la prisi\u00f3n y lo trajo a \u00e9l y escuch\u00f3 de \u00e9l palabras de salvaci\u00f3n y vida eterna. Luego fue bautizado y le dio m\u00e1s dinero para ampliar el palacio que le hab\u00eda construido en el cielo. As\u00ed, aumentaron los actos de misericordia, aument\u00f3 la gratitud a Dios y se ampli\u00f3 el alcance de las buenas nuevas de la Palabra de Vida.<\/p>\n
