Au d\u00e9but, elle n\u2019\u00e9tait pas chr\u00e9tienne, mais plut\u00f4t pa\u00efenne. Tout en jouissant d\u2019une beaut\u00e9 \u00e9poustouflante, elle pratiquait la d\u00e9bauche et, par cons\u00e9quent, accumulait une richesse importante pour elle-m\u00eame.<\/p>\n<p>Afdokiya s&#039;est comport\u00e9e de cette mani\u00e8re pendant des ann\u00e9es jusqu&#039;\u00e0 ce qu&#039;un chr\u00e9tien traverse sa vie et change le cours des choses pour elle. Le nom de cet homme \u00e9tait Germanus. On raconte qu&#039;il s\u00e9journa un jour, \u00e0 Baalbek, chez une chr\u00e9tienne dont la maison \u00e9tait situ\u00e9e \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 de celle d&#039;Afdoukieh. Pendant la nuit, l&#039;homme se levait et r\u00e9citait \u00e0 haute voix ses psaumes comme il en avait l&#039;habitude, puis il lut un texte dans un livre sur le jugement dernier, le ch\u00e2timent des p\u00e9cheurs et la r\u00e9compense des justes. Lorsque sa r\u00e9citation parvint aux oreilles d\u2019Avdokiah, Dieu ouvrit son c\u0153ur, alors elle se r\u00e9veilla de sa transgression et r\u00e9veilla sa conscience, alors elle sombra dans une profonde tristesse pour elle-m\u00eame et versa des larmes g\u00e9n\u00e9reuses tout au long de la nuit.<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>Avdokia a \u00e9t\u00e9 baptis\u00e9e par Th\u00e9odote, \u00e9v\u00eaque de Baalbek. Elle remit aussit\u00f4t ses biens \u00e0 un pr\u00eatre pour les distribuer aux n\u00e9cessiteux. Quant \u00e0 elle, elle suivit le chemin des vierges et s&#039;abandonna enti\u00e8rement au Dieu Tout-Puissant. On rapporte que de nombreux miracles ont \u00e9t\u00e9 accomplis par ses mains.<\/p>\n<p>Peu de temps apr\u00e8s la conversion de la nation de Dieu, la nouvelle d&#039;elle s&#039;est r\u00e9pandue et est parvenue aux oreilles de certains de ceux qui l&#039;ont connue pendant son exil, et ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 constern\u00e9s par son christianisme.
