F\u00f6r dem \u00e4r korset en symbol f\u00f6r lidande, d\u00f6d och skam. Det st\u00e5r i Bibeln att den som h\u00e4nger p\u00e5 korset \u00e4r f\u00f6rbannad av Gud (5 Mosebok 21:23). De till\u00e4gger: Om n\u00e5gon d\u00f6dar n\u00e5gon som \u00e4r k\u00e4r f\u00f6r oss, hedrar vi d\u00e5 det verktyg som han d\u00f6dades med?<\/p>\n<p>Kyrkan har st\u00e4llts inf\u00f6r detta problem fr\u00e5n b\u00f6rjan. Den helige Paulus s\u00e4ger i sitt f\u00f6rsta brev till korintierna: &quot;Ty ordet om korset \u00e4r d\u00e5rskap f\u00f6r dem som g\u00e5r under, men f\u00f6r oss som blir fr\u00e4lsta \u00e4r det Guds kraft&quot; (1:32).<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>N\u00e4r det g\u00e4ller evangelisten Johannes, f\u00f6r honom var korset inte l\u00e4ngre bara sm\u00e4rta och f\u00f6r\u00f6dmjukelse, utan blev snarare en symbol f\u00f6r Guds h\u00e4rlighet Kristus beskriver hans uppstigning p\u00e5 korset som upph\u00f6jelse, h\u00e4rlighet och seger \u00f6ver synd och d\u00f6d, och med korset kommer han att uppv\u00e4cka m\u00e4nskligheten till sin Fader: &quot;Men Jesus svarade dem och sade: Stunden \u00e4r kommen d\u00e5 M\u00e4nniskosonen ska f\u00f6rh\u00e4rligas.&quot; Sannerligen, sannerligen s\u00e4ger jag er, om inte ett vetekorn faller i jorden och d\u00f6r, f\u00f6rblir det ensamt. Men om det d\u00f6r, s\u00e5 b\u00e4r det mycket frukt... Och om jag lyfts upp fr\u00e5n jorden, kommer jag att dra alla m\u00e4nniskor till mig. Detta sade han f\u00f6r att visa vilken d\u00f6d han skulle d\u00f6\u201d (Joh 12:24-33).<\/p>\n<p>Kyrkans v\u00f6rdnad f\u00f6r korset beror inte bara p\u00e5 att &quot;Kristi kropp helgade korsets tr\u00e4&quot; - enligt den helige Johannes av Damaskus uttryck - utan f\u00f6r att med Kristi d\u00f6d p\u00e5 korset b\u00f6rjade fr\u00e4lsningsprocessen och korset blev en symbol f\u00f6r fr\u00e4lsning. Kristi d\u00f6d p\u00e5 korset betyder d\u00f6den och uppst\u00e5ndelsen av den gamla v\u00e4rlden och b\u00f6rjan p\u00e5 den nya f\u00f6rvandlingens tid. Genom korset skedde f\u00f6rsoning mellan m\u00e4nniskan och Gud: \u201dHan avskaffade med sin kropp budlagen i stadgar, f\u00f6r att i sig sj\u00e4lv skapa en ny m\u00e4nniska, skapa fred och f\u00f6rsona de tv\u00e5 i en kropp med Gud genom kors och d\u00f6dade fiendskapen d\u00e4ri\u201d (Ef 2:15-16).<\/p>\n<p>I Uppenbarelseboken finns en f\u00f6rening mellan martyrerna och Kristus: &quot;Deras lik kommer att ligga p\u00e5 gatan i den stora staden som andligen kallas Sodom och Egypten, d\u00e4r v\u00e5r Herre ocks\u00e5 blev korsf\u00e4st&quot; (Uppenbarelseboken 11:8). Detta \u00e4r vad Kristus ber alla sina n\u00e4ra och k\u00e4ra: &quot;Den som vill f\u00f6lja efter mig m\u00e5ste ta upp sitt kors och f\u00f6lja mig&quot; (Matt 16:24). Korset som den kristne b\u00e4r \u00e4r ett tecken p\u00e5 att han har \u00f6vergett synden, och samtidigt \u00e4r korset ett tecken p\u00e5 \u00e4ra och \u00e4ra f\u00f6r honom: \u201dOm n\u00e5gon tj\u00e4nar mig, l\u00e5t honom f\u00f6lja mig, och d\u00e4r jag \u00e4r, d\u00e4r \u00e4r min tj\u00e4nare kommer ocks\u00e5 att vara, och om n\u00e5gon tj\u00e4nar mig, s\u00e5 skall Fadern \u00e4ra honom\u201d (Joh 12:26).<\/p>\n<p>Kyrkan har uttryckt korsets betydelse i sitt liv och i alla troendes liv. Korset blev k\u00e4llan till evigt liv, martyrernas h\u00e4rlighet och en fr\u00e4lsningshamn Genom det skakades Satan och synden utpl\u00e5nades. I vesperb\u00f6nen f\u00f6r korsupph\u00f6jelsens h\u00f6gtid l\u00e4ser vi: \u201dGl\u00e4d dig, o kors som b\u00e4r liv, paradisets d\u00f6rr, troendes fasthet och kyrkans mur, genom vilken korruptionen har f\u00f6rsvunnit och varit avskaffats, d\u00f6dens makt har uppslukts, och vi har rests upp fr\u00e5n jorden till de himmelska platserna. Du \u00e4r vapnet som inte kan bek\u00e4mpas och motst\u00e5 dj\u00e4vlarna, eftersom du \u00e4r martyrernas och de r\u00e4ttf\u00e4rdigas h\u00e4rlighet... och fr\u00e4lsningens hamn som sk\u00e4nker
