Jungfru Maria har en speciell status bland alla helgon, och de ortodoxa v\u00f6rdar henne som "mer hederv\u00e4rd \u00e4n keruberna och oj\u00e4mf\u00f6rligt mer h\u00e4rlig \u00e4n seraferna." Medan Guds Moder f\u00f6rh\u00e4rligas och hedras p\u00e5 detta s\u00e4tt, \u00e4r det viktigt att notera att den ortodoxa kyrkan aldrig kr\u00e4ver att hon ska dyrkas n\u00e4r vi tillber Gud. Maria n\u00e4mns oftast n\u00e4r hon h\u00e5ller ortodoxa liturgiska gudstj\u00e4nster och brukar kallas med sin fullst\u00e4ndiga titel: (All-Helig, Mest Ren, Mest v\u00e4lsignad, Glorious, Our Lady, Mother of God, Ever-Jungfru, Maria). Det \u00e4r en titel som inkluderar de tre huvudepiteterna som den ortodoxa kyrkan till\u00e4gnar V\u00e5r Fru: (Theotokos), (Evig oskuld) (Aeparthenos) och (Panagia). Vi hedrar henne inte separat fr\u00e5n honom, utan p\u00e5 grund av hennes f\u00f6rh\u00e5llande till Kristus. Den \u00e4ra som ges till Maria f\u00f6rtar allts\u00e5 inte alls gudsdyrkan, utan tv\u00e4rtom. Ju mer vi uppskattar Maria, desto mer vet vi om hennes Sons majest\u00e4t, f\u00f6r till Sonens \u00e4ra d\u00f6per vi f\u00f6r att hedra Modern.<\/p>\n

Vi hedrar modern f\u00f6r hennes son. Den ortodoxa l\u00e4ran om Guds moder h\u00e4rr\u00f6r fr\u00e5n hennes undervisning om Kristus. N\u00e4r f\u00e4derna till r\u00e5det i Efesos betonade att kalla Maria Guds moder, var detta inte i avsikt att f\u00f6rh\u00e4rliga henne, utan snarare f\u00f6r att bevara den sanna l\u00e4ran relaterad till Kristi person. Den som t\u00e4nker p\u00e5 alla inneb\u00f6rden av denna grundl\u00e4ggande fras: (Och Ordet blev k\u00f6tt), m\u00e5ste b\u00f6ja sig med respekt inf\u00f6r den som valdes att vara ett redskap f\u00f6r detta stora mysterium. Och de som v\u00e4grar att hedra Maria \u00e4r desamma som inte riktigt tror p\u00e5 inkarnationen.<\/p>\n

Men det \u00e4r inte bara f\u00f6r att hon \u00e4r Guds moder som de ortodoxa hedrar Maria, utan ocks\u00e5 f\u00f6r att hon \u00e4r "all helighet". Bland alla Guds varelser \u00e4r hon det h\u00f6gsta exemplet p\u00e5 synergin mellan Guds f\u00f6rs\u00f6rjning och m\u00e4nsklig frihet. Gud, som alltid respekterar m\u00e4nsklig frihet, ville inte att han skulle inkarneras utan moderns fria samtycke. Han v\u00e4ntade p\u00e5 hennes spontana svar: "Se, jag \u00e4r Herrens tj\u00e4narinna, l\u00e5t det ske med mig enligt ditt ord" (Luk 1:38). Hon kunde ha v\u00e4grat. Hon var inte bara likgiltig, utan hon deltog villigt i inkarnationens mysterium. Som Nicholas Capsilas sa: (Inkarnationen var inte bara Faderns handling, Hans kraft och hans Ande... utan det var ocks\u00e5 jungfruns vilja och tro... Och precis som Gud inkarnerades av Hans egen fria vilja, s\u00e5 ville han att hans mor skulle bli gravid med honom med sin fulla frihet och samtycke) {Om beb\u00e5delsen, 4-5 }.<\/p>\n

Precis som Kristus \u00e4r den nye Adam, \u00e4r Maria den nya Eva, den vars lydnad mot Guds vilja skapade balans med Evas olydnad i paradiset. Den ortodoxa kyrkan kallar Maria "allhelig", precis som den kallar henne "ren", som \u00e4r "obefl\u00e4ckad". Alla ortodoxa tror att hon aldrig har beg\u00e5tt n\u00e5gon egentlig synd. Men har du ocks\u00e5 blivit befriad fr\u00e5n arvsynden? Med andra ord, h\u00e5ller ortodoxin med den katolska l\u00e4ran som f\u00f6rkunnades av p\u00e5ven Pius Den ortodoxa kyrkan har aldrig utf\u00e4rdat ett officiellt uttalande i detta \u00e4mne. Men ortodoxin, som f\u00f6rkastar l\u00e4ran om den obefl\u00e4ckade avlelsen, tror starkt p\u00e5 Jungfruns kroppsliga antagande. V\u00e5r Fru, som alla andra m\u00e4nniskor, k\u00e4nde till den naturliga d\u00f6den, men hennes kropps uppst\u00e5ndelse intr\u00e4ffade f\u00f6re alla andra. D\u00e4rf\u00f6r har hon \u00f6verskridit d\u00f6den och domen och lever fr\u00e5n och med nu i den kommande tids\u00e5ldern. Men den \u00e4r inte helt skild fr\u00e5n m\u00e4nskligheten, f\u00f6r vi hoppas en dag f\u00e5 ta del av den kropps h\u00e4rlighet den redan \u00e5tnjuter.<\/p>\n

Denna tro p\u00e5 antagandet av Guds moder uttrycks entydigt i de stycken som kyrkan sjunger den 15 augusti, festdagen f\u00f6r V\u00e5r Frus sovande. Men ortodoxin, till skillnad fr\u00e5n den romerska kyrkan, har inte tillgripit att f\u00f6rklara l\u00e4ran om Jungfruns kroppsliga antagande, och den har aldrig f\u00f6r avsikt att g\u00f6ra det.
