S\u00e5 vi synger i aftenb\u00f8nnen: (Lad os \u00e6re Johannes, asketernes stolthed...), og i morgenb\u00f8nnen siger vi til helgenen: (Hvis du har sv\u00e6kket din krop med forstoppelse, s\u00e5 forny din sj\u00e6ls styrke og berig dig det med himmelsk herlighed). Men kirken giver en korrekt fortolkning af Johannes&#039; l\u00e6re, n\u00e5r den erkl\u00e6rer, at askese ikke har nogen betydning eller v\u00e6rdi, hvis den ikke er et udtryk for k\u00e6rlighed, og n\u00e5r den henvender sig til helgenen med disse ord i aftenb\u00f8n: (Derfor Jeg r\u00e5bte til alle: Elsk Gud, og du vil finde evig lyksalighed. Foretr\u00e6kker ikke noget for hans k\u00e6rlighed.)<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>I messen forts\u00e6tter vi recitationen af Hebr\u00e6erbrevet (6:13-20). Den taler til os om Abrahams t\u00e5lmodighed og langmodighed og om den endelige opfyldelse af de l\u00f8fter, som Gud lovede ham. Det er umuligt for Gud at lyve. Jesus forbarmede sig over faderen og accepterede en s\u00e5dan tro og helbredte s\u00f8nnen. Da disciplene talte med l\u00e6reren hver for sig, spurgte de ham, hvorfor de ikke selv kunne uddrive denne d\u00e6mon. Jesus svarede: (Denne slags kan ikke fordrives undtagen ved b\u00f8n og faste). Lad os ikke tro, at lange faster og gentagne b\u00f8nner er tilstr\u00e6kkelige til at opn\u00e5 denne styrke, som disciplene endnu ikke n\u00f8d. B\u00f8n og faste, i den dybeste betydning af disse to ord, betyder total d\u00f8d for en selv, at etablere sig i en position af tillid og ydmyghed, der afventer alt fra Guds barmhjertighed, underkaste sig vores vilje til Herrens vilje og overgive hele vores v\u00e6sen til Faderens h\u00e6nder.<\/p>\n<p>Enhver, der n\u00e5r denne tilstand, ved Guds n\u00e5de, kan uddrive d\u00e6moner. Kan vi ikke i det mindste tage de f\u00f8rste skridt p\u00e5 denne vej?
