Der heilige Nikephoros wurde im Jahr 758 in Konstantinopel geboren. Sein Vater Theodoros war der Stabschef von K\u00f6nig Konstantin V. (einem der Kaiser, die gegen Ikonen k\u00e4mpften). Theodoros war ein gl\u00e4ubiger Mann, der einen aufrechten Glauben bewahrte, daher wollte der K\u00f6nig ihn von der Verehrung von Ikonen fernhalten, was ihm jedoch nicht gelang. Der K\u00f6nig ordnete an, ihn von seiner Arbeit zu verweisen, beschlagnahmte seinen Besitz und schickte ihn mit seiner Familie ins Exil. Doch Theodoros schlief im Exil bald im Herrn ein. Evdokia, die Mutter von Nikephoros, lehrte ihn die Wissenschaften dieser Zeit und die Lehren der Heiligen Kirche.<\/p>\n

K\u00f6nig Konstantin starb und wurde von seinem noch minderj\u00e4hrigen Sohn Konstantin VI. (780-797) abgel\u00f6st. Seine Mutter Irene wurde zur H\u00fcterin des Throns und war es, die die Verehrung der Ikonen wiederherstellte. Sie wollte auch den Respekt der Familie von Theodoros wiederherstellen, also ernannte sie seinen Sohn Nikoporos zum Oberhaupt des kaiserlichen Hofes, und er f\u00fchrte seine Mission gut aus.<\/p>\n
Im Jahr 787 n. Chr. fand das Siebte \u00d6kumenische Konzil statt, an dem Nikephoros als Vertreter des K\u00f6nigs teilnahm und die Aufmerksamkeit der V\u00e4ter des Konzils auf sich zog, weil sie in ihm theologische Kenntnisse sahen.<\/p>\n
Im Jahr 805 starb Patriarch Tarasius und die Heilige Synode w\u00e4hlte Nikephoros zu seinem Nachfolger. Er war damals noch ein S\u00e4kularist. Er z\u00f6gerte, mit der Sache zu beginnen, aber er kehrte zur\u00fcck und unterwarf sich dem Willen des Herrn. Innerhalb weniger Tage nahm er die Priesterw\u00fcrde an und wurde an Ostern des Jahres 806 zum Patriarchen von Konstantinopel geweiht. Er gelobte, der gute Hirte zu sein, der sich f\u00fcr die Herde opfert, und dem erhaltenen Pfand treu zu bleiben. Er begann seine Arbeit mit der Reform des Klerus und der Wiederbelebung des christlichen Geistes und der christlichen Tugenden in der Gesellschaft von Konstantinopel, und dies gelang ihm in kurzer Zeit.<\/p>\n
Nikephoros ruhte nicht lange und war auch nicht zufrieden mit den Fr\u00fcchten seiner Bem\u00fchungen. Im Jahr 813 bestieg Leo V. (der Armenier), der wieder gegen Ikonen k\u00e4mpfte, den Thron. Damit begann eine schwere Verfolgung gegen diejenigen, die Ikonen verehren. Der K\u00f6nig versuchte zun\u00e4chst, Nikophorus zu seiner H\u00e4resie zu verleiten, doch er erhielt vom Patriarchen nur eine Antwort: \u201eWir k\u00f6nnen nichts an den Lehren der Kirche und ihren alten Traditionen \u00e4ndern.\u201c Wir ehren Ikonen, genauso wie wir die B\u00fccher der Evangelien ehren und Sie ehren. Christus kam vor achthundert Jahren auf die Welt und wird seitdem dargestellt und verehrt. Wer wagt es, diese alte Tradition abzuschaffen?<\/p>\n
Dem K\u00f6nig blieb keine andere Wahl, als einen Rat einzuberufen, der sich aus einer Reihe von Bisch\u00f6fen zusammensetzte, die gegen Ikonen k\u00e4mpften und den Patriarchen der Ketzerei beschuldigten. Sie verf\u00fcgten, dass er seines Amtes enthoben werden sollte, und ordneten seine Verbannung an.<\/p>\n
Nikephoros blieb 14 Jahre im Exil im Kloster des Heiligen Theodoros in der N\u00e4he von Konstantinopel. Er schlief im Jahr 828 im Herrn ein, nachdem er viele Jahre lang geduldig und mutig sein Kreuz getragen hatte.<\/p>\n
Die Zeit Leos verging, gefolgt von Michael II. und Theophilus, die beide Bilderst\u00fcrmer waren. Als Michael III. und seine Mutter Theodora im Jahr 842 n. Chr. die Macht erlangten und der Heilige Methodius Patriarch wurde, wurden die Reliquien des Heiligen Nikephoros mit ihrer Anstrengung von Prochonis nach Konstantinopel gebracht, wo sie in die Kirche der Heiligen Weisheit \u00fcberf\u00fchrt wurden Kirche der Heiligen Apostel, in der fr\u00fcher Kaiser und Patriarchen begraben wurden. Es wurde berichtet, dass sein K\u00f6rper noch nicht verwest sei. Es wurde auch berichtet, dass er am 13. M\u00e4rz 827 n.
