We would not have included - in the context of talking about the errors of the Seventh-day Adventists - this topic (conversation with spirits), if the Seventh-day Adventists had not falsely accused the church of \u201cbelittling Christ\u201d and despising \u201chis word and his people\u201d by accepting this scourge (Ellen White, The Great Conflict, pp. 654-655).<\/p>\n
Those who have read the distorted writings of the Seventh-day Adventists know that they link the communication of spirits with the prayers that the church performs for the dead brothers. Ellen White says: \u201cThe teaching of the natural immortality of the soul, which was first taken from pagan philosophy... was introduced into the Christian faith,\u201d and it \u201coccupied the place of the truth so clearly taught in Scripture, which says that the dead know nothing.\u201d White claims that many people have begun to believe that \u201cthe spirits of the dead are ministering spirits\u2026\u201d (meaning: angels), and she adds more sin by saying: It was prayer for the dead that paved the way for \u201cthe modern doctrine of communing with spirits.\u201d<\/p>\n
What we must emphasize, first of all, is that what the Seventh-day Adventists call \u201cthe doctrine of communing with spirits\u201d is something that the Church absolutely does not say about, and it hates it very much, and has denounced it - and all kinds of magic and divination..._ without a council or a law (see the Council of Ankara, year 314, Canon 24; Council of Latakia, fourth century, canon 36; Canons of Saint Basil the Great, canon 65 and 83; the letter of Saint Gregory of Nyssa mentioned in the Ecumenical Councils: the fourth, sixth and seventh century, canon 3; Council of Trullo, year 692, canon 61), and that this \u201c Doctrine, therefore, has nothing to do, in Christian education, with supplication to God for the sake of brothers who have previously fallen asleep, for that is different from that, and there is no connection between them (see \u201cMy Parish\u201d 32\/1996, where we devoted an article entitled: \u201cPrayer for the Fallen\u201d ). Those who are informed know that the Church, which forbids believers from all imaginary methods that seek physical contact with spirits or dormant souls in order to obtain \u201cnews or assistance,\u201d is advising them to rely on God in every situation, and to be inspired by His Word to be wise and attain \u201csalvation through faith that is in Christ Jesus\u201d (2 Timothy 3:15; see also Luke 16:19-31).<\/p>\n
We know the story of conjuring the spirit of the Prophet Samuel, which King Saul resorted to after he exiled \u201cthe necromancers and diviners from the land.\u201d How he disobeyed the Lord and His word, after he despaired of getting an answer from Him (\u201cSaul asked the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him, neither by dreams nor by Urim.\u201d Nor by the prophets.\u201d He went in disguise on a dangerous journey near the enemy camp in Shunem, to consult a \u201cwoman who conjures spirits\u201d in En Dor... (1 Samuel 28: 3-25), and this act led to his rejection and death (1 Chronicles 10: 13-14). This, and what is similar to it: the art of magicians and the use of knots and laces... was forbidden to the people of God. The Lord says: \u201cDo not pay attention to necromancers, nor go to diviners or become defiled by them\u201d (Chronicles 19:31; Deuteronomy 18; Exodus 23; Jeremiah 8:17; Ezekiel 13:17-23; Wisdom 4:12). This is because the Lord is stronger than the forces of the evil world (Genesis 41; Exodus 7: 8-24; Daniel 2: 4 and 5: 14), and He wants His people to ask Him alone for everything that will benefit their salvation, and to rely on Him and believe in His wisdom... Readers of the New Testament know that The apostles preserved this divine teaching, rejecting all types of magic and its arts (Acts 8: 9-24, 13: 6-12, 16: 16-18, and 19: 11-20, 2 Timothy 3: 8).<\/p>\n
We have shown above that the Church, which possesses the legacy of truth, rejects superstitions (souls and divination), and this applies to every hybrid art that distorts nature and distorts faith. I mean what fascinates the world today: the fortunes of the zodiac signs that newspapers and magazines tell us about; Palm reading or a cup of coffee... and then everything that gives a person false reassurance in facing the misfortunes and difficulties of this life. This is because every reliance on other than God is polytheism and misguidance. God is alive and present with His power (through the Holy Mysteries, the Divine Word, and prayer...), and in this presence - alone - we can know His will, which Jesus called us, in the Lord\u2019s Prayer, to surrender to (He said: Pray, \u201cThy will be done\u201d). It remains that the true believer who comes from these words of Jesus: \u201cToday\u2019s evil is sufficient,\u201d \u201cAnd come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest\u201d (Matthew 6:34, 11:28), does not fear tomorrow and its heaviness and troubles. This is because there is a fundamental difference between those who believe in Christ and those who search for comfort and reassurance outside of Him. Christ is the believer\u2019s oasis in the desert of this existence, and His revealed light guides the truthful to \u201ceternal life,\u201d which is God Himself (John 17:3; 1 John 5). : 20). As for those who rely on the world and its illusions, they lose themselves and gain nothing.<\/p>\n
The defect of the Adventists is that they explain what they do not understand in a way that suits their goals, which are not hidden from those who knew the truth and believed in it.
