We will try to understand the most important icon symbols found in our church, especially the ones most used in the liturgy. It is worth noting that the symbols affect the colors, the geometry of the icon\u2019s lines, the distribution of scenes, as well as the position of the body. The icon starts from the reality of the event in history and place, to transport us to a deified, manifested reality.<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Colors :<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dark red: symbolizes suffering humanity, the love of Christ, and divinity.<\/li>\n<li>Blue: a symbol of knowledge that is not perceived by the mind but by the heart. It symbolizes divine glory.<\/li>\n<li>Green: symbolizes renewal and human nature.<\/li>\n<li>Golden: symbolizes eternity, the eternal and imperishable kingdom (all icons are based on the golden color).<\/li>\n<li>Yellow: symbolizes divine light.<\/li>\n<li>White: symbolizes purity and the glow of divine light. <\/li>\n<li>Black: symbolizes loss, the unknown, and the darkness of sin and death.<\/li>\n<li>Brown: symbolizes the earth, as the first Adam was made of dust.<\/li>\n<li>Violet: Symbolizes union with God (a combination of blue, human nature, and red, symbol of divine nature).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Icon of Abraham&#039;s hospitality<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-910\" src=\"http:\/\/orthodoxonline.org\/theology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2009\/03\/The_hospitality_of_abraham_3.jpg\" alt=\"Icon of Abraham&#039;s hospitality\" style=\"vertical-align: middle;\" title=\"Icon of Abraham&#039;s hospitality\" width=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.orthodoxonline.org\/theology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2009\/03\/The_hospitality_of_abraham_3.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.orthodoxonline.org\/theology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2009\/03\/The_hospitality_of_abraham_3-295x300.jpg 295w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The angel representing the Father points to the cup in the center, which contains the Paschal Lamb. The Father looks to the Son.<\/li>\n<li>The angel to the left of the Son represents the Holy Spirit. Darker blue than the Son because he sends the knowledge of the Trinity into the earth.<\/li>\n<li>The Father&#039;s view of the Son: divine love and eternal outpouring.<\/li>\n<li>The scepter and wand are a symbol of care and education.<\/li>\n<li>The icon focuses on the cup in the middle: the Paschal Lamb. <\/li>\n<li>The mountain represents the entire universe.<\/li>\n<li>The building symbolizes the church, that is, the new world in Christ Jesus.<\/li>\n<li>The bending position of the angels&#039; bodies creates the shape of a cup.<\/li>\n<li>The central curvature of the angel&#039;s face is the same as the curvature of Christ&#039;s head on the cross, symbolized by the tree (tree of life) behind the angel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Palm Sunday icon<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-911\" src=\"http:\/\/orthodoxonline.org\/theology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2009\/03\/08-triumphal_entry.jpg\" alt=\"Palm Sunday icon\" title=\"Palm Sunday icon\" width=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.orthodoxonline.org\/theology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2009\/03\/08-triumphal_entry.jpg 371w, https:\/\/www.orthodoxonline.org\/theology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2009\/03\/08-triumphal_entry-232x300.jpg 232w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 371px) 100vw, 371px\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The tree: symbolizes the tree of life in Paradise and the cross, as in the icon of Abraham\u2019s hospitality.<\/li>\n<li>The Master sitting on the colt demonstrates the Lord\u2019s humility, and the animal also symbolizes the bestiality of the nations that the Master exalted and made exalted.<\/li>\n<li>There is a contrast between the joyful children in the Tree of Life and the people singing \u201cHosanna,\u201d as well as the clear complaining of the Jews at the gates of the city.<\/li>\n<li>The eyes of children responding to the presence of the Lord call to emulate their innocent purity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Icon of the Master&#039;s entry into the temple<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-912\" src=\"http:\/\/orthodoxonline.org\/theology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2009\/03\/05-presentation_of_God.jpg\" alt=\"Icon of Mr. L&#039;s entrance to the temple\" title=\"Icon of Mr. L&#039;s entrance to the temple\" width=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.orthodoxonline.org\/theology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2009\/03\/05-presentation_of_God.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.orthodoxonline.org\/theology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2009\/03\/05-presentation_of_God-242x300.jpg 242w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dark red: suffering humanity.<\/li>\n<li>Red Curtain: Divine knowledge connected the two temples by the red curtain (a symbol of redemption).<\/li>\n<li>God&#039;s love bound the legal structure and transformed it into a new structure, the Church. This idea will become clearer in the icon of the descent into hell.<\/li>\n<li>Christ&#039;s stomach is a dilemma that refers to the pain and anticipation of the cross.<\/li>\n<li>The length of the bodies symbolizes the virgin soul, the human being in glory.<\/li>\n<li>Angels<br \/>Humanity moving toward the Son. Redeemed humanity glorifies God the incarnate Son in its service to the Son. Humanity believed in the coming of Christ and was enlightened by his light.<\/li>\n<li>the fish <br \/>Remember the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Savior.<\/li>\n<li>Dove<br \/>In their interpretation of baptism, the Fathers go back to the story of Noah and the dove that brought an olive branch, and to the fact that the spirit, since creation, has been fluttering on the surface of the waters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Transfiguration icon<span lang=\"ar-sy\">:<\/span><br \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-915\" src=\"http:\/\/orthodoxonline.org\/theology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2009\/03\/07-the_transfiguration_of_our_lord.jpg\" alt=\"Transfiguration icon\" title=\"Transfiguration icon\" width=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.orthodoxonline.org\/theology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2009\/03\/07-the_transfiguration_of_our_lord.jpg 331w, https:\/\/www.orthodoxonline.org\/theology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2009\/03\/07-the_transfiguration_of_our_lord-199x300.jpg 199w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 331px) 100vw, 331px\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the Transfiguration, the glory of Christ was revealed to the disciples for the first time.<\/li>\n<li>Christ is clothed with light like a garment.<\/li>\n<li>Moses represents the law of the Old Testament, and Elijah the prophets of the Old Testament, and symbolizes our resurrection and ascension with the Lord because he ascended in the chariot of fire. For parents, the heart is the source of knowledge.
