El m\u00e9rito de su educaci\u00f3n es primero para su madre. A los doce a\u00f1os se comprometi\u00f3 con una de las chicas ricas, llamada Migalo. Su noviazgo dur\u00f3 ocho a\u00f1os, al final de los cuales se cas\u00f3. En su noche de bodas, Te\u00f3fanes revel\u00f3 a su novia su deseo, que siempre hab\u00eda abrazado, de abrazar la vida mon\u00e1stica. Pudo convencer a su esposa para que vivieran juntos. Pero con estre\u00f1imiento, como hermano y hermana.<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>Esta boda dur\u00f3 dos a\u00f1os, a pesar de la presi\u00f3n que ejerci\u00f3 sobre ellos el padre de Migalo. Su alma se llen\u00f3 del amor de Dios y su fidelidad fue constante. Cuando murieron el emperador y su t\u00edo, el padre de Megalo, Te\u00f3fanes pidi\u00f3 permiso a la reina Irene para hacerse cargo de la regencia, tambi\u00e9n despidi\u00f3 a sus sirvientes, distribuy\u00f3 sus riquezas y coloc\u00f3 a su esposa Deira en el Archipi\u00e9lago de los Pr\u00edncipes. Desde entonces no la ha vuelto a ver. Simplemente le escrib\u00eda para animarla a perseverar en aquello por lo que dej\u00f3 el mundo. En cuanto a \u00e9l, se convirti\u00f3 en monje en el monasterio de Polychronion en el pico Sigriani, cerca de Kyzikos. De all\u00ed se mud\u00f3, por un tiempo, a una de las casas familiares en la isla Kalonymos. Los estudiantes del monasterio comenzaron a acudir en masa a \u00e9l, pero \u00e9l no quer\u00eda cuidar de ellos. Este fue entregado a un monje experimentado que ven\u00eda de otro monasterio, mientras \u00e9l andaba como ermita\u00f1o por el barrio durante seis a\u00f1os, trabajando en el transporte de manuscritos.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando muri\u00f3 el director del monasterio, los hermanos quer\u00edan que \u00e9l ocupara su lugar. Como tem\u00eda que se perdiera Hezikhia (la calma), regres\u00f3 a la cima del Sigriani y adquiri\u00f3 una propiedad conocida como \u201cEl Gran Campo\u201d en la que fund\u00f3 un monasterio que m\u00e1s tarde se convirti\u00f3 en uno de los centros espirituales m\u00e1s importantes de esa \u00e9poca. Te\u00f3fanes practicaba el ayuno, la vigilancia y las l\u00e1grimas, y era un ejemplo a seguir para todos. Una vez m\u00e1s, los estudiantes se reunieron a su alrededor y \u00e9l se hizo cargo de ellos. Sab\u00eda tratar a todos como a hermanos, a los sencillos y a los educados al mismo tiempo. Los dirigi\u00f3 con autoridad pero sin violencia. Les ense\u00f1\u00f3 la doctrina y el arte de controlar juntos sus deseos. Para adquirir m\u00e1s conocimientos, visit\u00f3 algunos monasterios en Bitinia y Ponto. Adem\u00e1s de los trabajos que realizaba para velar por s\u00ed mismo y su reba\u00f1o, se dedic\u00f3 a escribir los Anales, considerados uno de los documentos m\u00e1s importantes relacionados con la historia de Bizancio. Era un vaso elegido por Dios, incluidos todos los que acud\u00edan a \u00e9l por la misericordia de su Se\u00f1or. Cuando sobrevino una gran hambruna, distribuy\u00f3 todo lo que hab\u00eda en el almac\u00e9n del monasterio, y la gracia de su Se\u00f1or lo llen\u00f3 nuevamente.<\/p>\n<p>Nuestro santo fue invitado al Segundo Concilio de Nicea, en el a\u00f1o 787 d.C., que se celebr\u00f3 en defensa de los santos iconos. Su vestimenta era sencilla y pobre, pero asombr\u00f3 a los presentes con la profundidad de su conocimiento de la herencia de los Santos Padres. Cuando regres\u00f3 a su monasterio, enferm\u00f3 y sufri\u00f3 fuertes dolores que le duraron a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>En el a\u00f1o 815 d.C., cuando el emperador armenio Le\u00f3n V reanud\u00f3 su campa\u00f1a sobre los iconos, algunos de sus ayudantes le informaron sobre el monje Te\u00f3fanes y el peso teol\u00f3gico que ten\u00eda y que pod\u00eda arruinar su empresa. Intent\u00f3 ganarse a nuestro santo para su partido, por lo que le ofreci\u00f3 su benevolencia, por un lado, si cumpl\u00eda y cooperaba, y le advirti\u00f3, por otro lado, si desobedec\u00eda y se pon\u00eda testarudo, porque eso acarrear\u00eda graves consecuencias. da\u00f1o para \u00e9l y sus compa\u00f1eros.<\/p>\n<p>La respuesta de Te\u00f3fanes fue: \u201cDespu\u00e9s de que envejec\u00ed y me sent\u00ed agobiado por el dolor y la enfermedad, no sent\u00ed ninguna inclinaci\u00f3n ni deseo por lo que me propuse. Aunque no puedo caminar y sufro de dolencias corporales, conf\u00edo en Cristo que es capaz de prepararme para soportar las m\u00e1s duras torturas que me puedan infligir, en defensa de su causa\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Entonces Le\u00f3n le envi\u00f3 sus soldados, quem\u00f3 su monasterio y lo traslad\u00f3 por la fuerza a Constantinopla, sin importarle su enfermedad y su dolor. Cuando lleg\u00f3 a la ciudad pose\u00edda, se neg\u00f3 a encontrarse con el emperador, por lo que Le\u00f3n se enoj\u00f3 y lo encarcel\u00f3 en el monasterio de los Santos Sergio y Baco, donde el patriarca hereje, tambi\u00e9n llamado Le\u00f3n, intent\u00f3 gan\u00e1rselo para el emperador, pero en vano. Todos los argumentos de Leo fueron completamente refutados por Te\u00f3fanes.<\/p>\n<p>Despu\u00e9s de eso, lo encarcelaron durante dos a\u00f1os en un lugar oscuro del palacio de Fatarius. Lo privaron de comida muchas veces, lo trataron con dureza y lo sometieron a azotes repetidas veces. Cuando el Emperador no se benefici\u00f3 de lo que le sucedi\u00f3, lo desterr\u00f3 a la isla de Samotracia. Nuestro santo no pudo permanecer all\u00ed m\u00e1s de veinte d\u00edas, tras los cuales falleci\u00f3 el doce de marzo del a\u00f1o 817 u 818 d.C. Su santuario se convirti\u00f3 inmediatamente en una fuente de curaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>En el a\u00f1o 822, llegaron sus disc\u00edpulos y trasladaron sus restos a su monasterio en Al-Haql Al-Kabir. San Teodoro el Estudita, de cuya orden Te\u00f3fanes era padrino, fue quien predic\u00f3 el serm\u00f3n en aquella ocasi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>La iglesia lo celebra el 12 de marzo.<\/p>\n<p>Troparia en la
