Padre Romanides:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMis padres vinieron de la ciudad romana de Castropolis en Arabassus, Capadocia, lugar de nacimiento del emperador romano Mauricio (582-602), quien nombr\u00f3 a San Gregorio Magno (590-604) como Papa de Roma, quien a su vez nombr\u00f3 a Agust\u00edn el primer arzobispo de Canterbury.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Nac\u00ed en Berea el 2 de marzo de 1927. Dej\u00e9 Grecia con mi familia para emigrar a Estados Unidos el 15 de mayo de 1927, cuando ten\u00eda s\u00f3lo 72 d\u00edas, y crec\u00ed en Manhattan, en la ciudad de Nueva York.<\/p>\n

Soy egresado del Greek College of Brooklyn, de la Divinity School de la Universidad de Yale, con un doctorado de la Escuela de Teolog\u00eda de la Universidad Nacional de Atenas, y de la Escuela de Filosof\u00eda de la Universidad de Harvard (Facultad de Artes y Ciencias). \u201cSoy profesor honorario de la Facultad de Teolog\u00eda de la Universidad de Tesal\u00f3nica y profesor invitado en el Instituto Teol\u00f3gico San Juan de Damasco de la Universidad de Balamand en el L\u00edbano, desde 1970\u201d.<\/p>\n

A estos sumaremos que tambi\u00e9n estudi\u00f3 en el Instituto Saint Vladimir de Nueva York, el Instituto San Sergio de Par\u00eds, as\u00ed como en Munich, Alemania. Fue ordenado sacerdote en 1951 y desde entonces ha servido en varias di\u00f3cesis de los Estados Unidos de Am\u00e9rica. Tambi\u00e9n se desempe\u00f1\u00f3 como profesor en la Facultad de Teolog\u00eda de la Santa Cruz, pero renunci\u00f3 en 1965, en protesta por el despido del padre George Florovsky de la universidad.<\/p>\n

Fue nombrado catedr\u00e1tico de doctrina en la Facultad de Teolog\u00eda de la Universidad de Tesal\u00f3nica el 12 de junio de 1968, pero no ingres\u00f3 porque fue acusado de comunismo. Finalmente se comprometi\u00f3 all\u00ed en 1970. Dimiti\u00f3 en 1984 por motivos personales y recibi\u00f3 una indemnizaci\u00f3n completa, pero lo que no correspond\u00eda era darle el t\u00edtulo de profesor em\u00e9rito.<\/p>\n

Su tesis doctoral sobre el \u201cpecado original\u201d fue una investigaci\u00f3n revolucionaria en todo el sentido de la palabra, ya que abri\u00f3 nuevas v\u00edas en nuestra teolog\u00eda, seguida de sus relevantes libros sobre el romanismo en el campo de la historia. El padre John revivi\u00f3 tanto la investigaci\u00f3n como la comprensi\u00f3n. Andrew Sopko escribi\u00f3 su tesis doctoral titulada \u201cEl profeta de la ortodoxia romana \u2013 La teolog\u00eda del padre John Romanides\u201d en Canad\u00e1 en 1998. En esta tesis, Sopko examin\u00f3 sistem\u00e1ticamente las obras del padre Romanides y su contribuci\u00f3n a la ciencia.<\/p>\n

Igualmente importante fue su contribuci\u00f3n a nuestra Iglesia, al participar en di\u00e1logos teol\u00f3gicos con no ortodoxos, especialmente anglicanos, as\u00ed como con no cristianos (jud\u00edos y musulmanes). El hecho de que el ingl\u00e9s fuera su lengua materna lo ayud\u00f3 y le brind\u00f3 la facilidad que necesitaba para articular con precisi\u00f3n las posiciones de nuestra iglesia. En el di\u00e1logo con la Federaci\u00f3n Luterana Mundial (1978), tuve la oportunidad de conocerlo mejor, de convertirme en su amigo, y lo que es m\u00e1s importante para m\u00ed es que me convert\u00ed en su alumno, adem\u00e1s de dedicarme a Estudio extenso y continuo de sus obras. En estos di\u00e1logos qued\u00f3 claramente patente su conocimiento de la tradici\u00f3n patr\u00edstica, en paralelo con su conocimiento de la falsificaci\u00f3n a la que fue sometida esta tradici\u00f3n tanto en Oriente como en Occidente. Fue particularmente evidente su conocimiento de la teolog\u00eda de San Gregorio Palamas, piedra angular de la tradici\u00f3n ortodoxa.<\/p>\n

El padre John fue un defensor de la conexi\u00f3n entre la teolog\u00eda y la experiencia del Esp\u00edritu Santo, y un defensor de la ense\u00f1anza sobre las etapas del progreso espiritual de los santos (purificaci\u00f3n - iluminaci\u00f3n - deificaci\u00f3n) como requisitos b\u00e1sicos para los concilios ecum\u00e9nicos y para su sincera aceptaci\u00f3n. que fue descuidado en Occidente, e incluso en nuestro pensamiento teol\u00f3gico occidentalizado. Antes y despu\u00e9s de Romanides<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Al repasar sus obras teol\u00f3gicas, educativas, literarias y militantes, nos vemos obligados naturalmente a referirnos a dos per\u00edodos: antes de Romanides y despu\u00e9s de \u00e9l. Introdujo una verdadera ruptura en nuestra historia escol\u00e1stica, que equival\u00eda a un cautiverio babil\u00f3nico de nuestra teolog\u00eda. Su tesis sell\u00f3 este camino revivalista hasta el punto de que su influencia en el pensamiento teol\u00f3gico apareci\u00f3 incluso en los escritos de quienes lo criticaron por diversas razones o se opusieron intelectualmente. Entre los logros del padre John en particular:<\/p>\n

  1. Devolvi\u00f3 la prioridad a la teolog\u00eda patr\u00edstica emp\u00edrica en el campo de la teolog\u00eda acad\u00e9mica, descartando el m\u00e9todo de teolog\u00eda racional-especulativo-metaf\u00edsico.<\/li>\n
  2. Vincul\u00f3 la teolog\u00eda acad\u00e9mica con el culto y la tradici\u00f3n patr\u00edstica Philokalia, demostrando la interconexi\u00f3n entre la teolog\u00eda y la vida espiritual y la calidad espiritual terap\u00e9utica de la teolog\u00eda dogm\u00e1tica.<\/li>\n
  3. En su m\u00e9todo teol\u00f3gico, comprendi\u00f3 y abraz\u00f3 la fuerte conexi\u00f3n entre doctrina e historia, y gracias a este m\u00e9todo pudo comprender, como pocos, que la teolog\u00eda se occidentaliz\u00f3 en Europa Occidental y muri\u00f3 bajo la influencia de la fuerza impuesta por la Ocupaci\u00f3n franca.     No ortodoxo<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

     De hecho, los no ortodoxos, m\u00e1s que nosotros, reconocieron la personalidad del padre John y su importancia para la ortodoxia. Fue considerado el investigador ortodoxo de mayor rango en el pensamiento de Agust\u00edn, e incluso ayud\u00f3 a la teolog\u00eda occidental a comprenderlo. Fue distinguido como "sin duda el te\u00f3logo ortodoxo m\u00e1s importante cuyas obras inclu\u00edan un estudio cr\u00edtico del pensamiento de Agust\u00edn a la luz de la teolog\u00eda patr\u00edstica". Debemos mencionar que estamos en deuda con el Padre John por su muy importante afirmaci\u00f3n de que la ense\u00f1anza de Barlaam de Calabria, que dice que las experiencias de los profetas en la percepci\u00f3n de Dios son "fen\u00f3menos naturales, que pueden realizarse o descuidarse", es una ense\u00f1anza. derivado del tratado de Agust\u00edn sobre la Trinidad.<\/p>\n
