Il est n\u00e9 en 1651 apr\u00e8s JC pr\u00e8s de la ville de Kiev. Comme son p\u00e8re \u00e9tait dans l&#039;arm\u00e9e et \u00e9tait souvent absent de chez lui, c&#039;est sa m\u00e8re qui l&#039;a \u00e9lev\u00e9 et qui a eu la principale influence en l&#039;\u00e9levant dans la vertu et l&#039;amour du Christ.<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>D\u00e9m\u00e9trius entra \u00e0 l&#039;Institut eccl\u00e9siastique de Kiev \u00e0 l&#039;\u00e2ge de onze ans et d\u00e9veloppa le don de la parole. Il fut ordonn\u00e9 pr\u00eatre \u00e0 l&#039;\u00e2ge de vingt-quatre ans. Il devient pr\u00e9dicateur et administrateur de plusieurs monast\u00e8res. Il essaya plus d&#039;une fois de prendre sa retraite pour devenir moine, mais le besoin de l&#039;\u00c9glise \u00e0 son \u00e9gard le convainquit d&#039;abandonner le d\u00e9sir de son c\u0153ur. Puisque les invasions tatares avaient d\u00e9truit, entre autres, de nombreuses \u0153uvres spirituelles en terre russe, y compris la vie des saints, le choix tomba sur saint D\u00e9m\u00e9trius pour mener les \u00e9tudes et recherches n\u00e9cessaires pour r\u00e9\u00e9crire la vie des saints.<\/p>\n<p>Il lui fallut vingt-cinq ans pour achever ce formidable ouvrage, durant lesquels il fit preuve d&#039;un z\u00e8le et d&#039;une pr\u00e9cision remarquables dans son travail. Il passait la plupart de son temps, en dehors de la pri\u00e8re et de la m\u00e9ditation, \u00e0 examiner les sources restantes et \u00e0 les \u00e9tudier dans leurs moindres d\u00e9tails. Dix saints remplissaient sa conscience au point que certains d&#039;entre eux lui apparaissaient et l&#039;aidaient dans son \u0153uvre. Par exemple, l&#039;apparition de saint martyr Oreste le 10 novembre de l&#039;ann\u00e9e 1685. Le martyr lui dit : \u00ab J&#039;ai souffert plus de souffrances pour l&#039;amour du Christ que je n&#039;en ai dit \u00bb, et il commen\u00e7a \u00e0 montrer lui ses blessures dans diff\u00e9rentes parties de son corps, puis il lui dit : \u00ab Tu vois ? J\u2019avais plus mal que je ne l\u2019avais \u00e9crit !<\/p>\n<p>Saint D\u00e9m\u00e9trius fut choisi comme \u00e9v\u00eaque de la ville de Rostov en 1702 apr\u00e8s JC. Il s&#039;est consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 redresser ce qui \u00e9tait tordu et \u00e0 raviver ce qui avait d\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 dans les croyances de son peuple et les pratiques de l&#039;\u00c9glise. Il est rest\u00e9 in\u00e9branlable dans son asc\u00e9tisme, sa rigueur habituelle envers lui-m\u00eame et ses pri\u00e8res r\u00e9guli\u00e8res, malgr\u00e9 ses nombreux maux physiques. Un grand nombre d\u2019\u0153uvres spirituelles pr\u00e9cieuses lui sont attribu\u00e9es. Ses contemporains ont rapport\u00e9 qu&#039;il enseignait davantage par son exemple que par ses sermons et son enseignement. Son comportement en mati\u00e8re de pri\u00e8re, de je\u00fbne, de compassion et de mis\u00e9ricorde a eu un grand impact \u00e0 la fois sur les \u00e2mes des m\u00e9chants et des justes.<\/p>\n<p>Trois jours avant sa mort, son entourage apprend son d\u00e9part imminent. Il rassembla les serviteurs et les chanteurs et se prosterna devant eux un par un et leur demanda de lui pardonner. Puis il s&#039;est enferm\u00e9 dans sa cellule, debout en pri\u00e8re. Le lendemain, le vingt-huit octobre 1709 apr\u00e8s JC, sa famille vint enqu\u00eater et d\u00e9couvrit qu&#039;il les avait quitt\u00e9s alors qu&#039;il \u00e9tait en position de prosternation et de pri\u00e8re. Il avait cinquante-huit ans.<\/p>\n<p>Les jours ont pass\u00e9, quarante-cinq ans apr\u00e8s sa mort, et son corps a \u00e9t\u00e9 retrouv\u00e9 intact et non d\u00e9compos\u00e9. Dieu a accompli de nombreux miracles de gu\u00e9rison \u00e0 travers lui jusqu&#039;\u00e0 ce que l&#039;\u00c9glise russe d\u00e9clare officiellement sa saintet\u00e9 en 1757 apr\u00e8s JC.<\/p>\n<p>L&#039;\u00e9glise le comm\u00e9more le 28 novembre, le 21 septembre, jour anniversaire du d\u00e9voilement des reliques du saint, et le 23 mai, f\u00eate de tous les saints de
