\"Il est disciple de l'Ap\u00f4tre Saint Paul. Il est mentionn\u00e9 dans le Livre des Actes des Ap\u00f4tres parmi ceux qui croyaient \u00e0 l'\u00c9vangile de saint Paul \u00e0 Ath\u00e8nes : \u00ab Mais quelques hommes se joignirent \u00e0 lui et crurent, entre autres Denys l'Ar\u00e9opagite \u00bb (Actes 17, 34). Denys \u00e9tait l'un des membres \u00e9minents de l'Ar\u00e9opage (d'o\u00f9 son nom d'Ar\u00e9opage), qui est la cour supr\u00eame sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e dans les affaires p\u00e9nales, et il connaissait bien la philosophie grecque. Le patrimoine indique qu'il est devenu \u00e9v\u00eaque d'Ath\u00e8nes, et peut-\u00eatre le premier \u00e9v\u00eaque. Il semble qu'il v\u00e9cut longtemps, atteignant l'\u00e2ge de quatre-vingt-dix ans, et qu'il mourut martyr par d\u00e9capitation, avec deux de ses disciples, sous le r\u00e8gne de l'empereur Domitien en l'an 96.<\/p>\n

Nous avons d\u00e9couvert quatre ouvrages th\u00e9ologiques c\u00e9l\u00e8bres et importants dont l'auteur pr\u00e9tend \u00eatre Denys l'Ar\u00e9opagite. Cependant, les \u00e9rudits s'accordent \u00e0 l'unanimit\u00e9 sur le fait que ces \u00e9crits ne peuvent pas \u00eatre \u00e9crits par saint Denys, d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 au premier si\u00e8cle de notre \u00e8re, mais plut\u00f4t par un \u00e9crivain chr\u00e9tien syrien inconnu qui a v\u00e9cu longtemps dans la ville d'Ath\u00e8nes \u00e0 la fin du Ve si\u00e8cle de notre \u00e8re. environ quatre cents ans apr\u00e8s la mort de Denys. Par cons\u00e9quent, ces \u00e9crits sont devenus connus sous le nom d\u2019\u00e9crits apocryphes de Denys l\u2019Ar\u00e9opagite (c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire attribu\u00e9s \u00e0 quelqu\u2019un d\u2019autre que leur auteur). En raison de l\u2019importance de ces \u00e9crits qui, comme nous l\u2019avons mentionn\u00e9, ne sont pas de notre saint martyr, nous pr\u00e9senterons ci-apr\u00e8s leur contenu et leurs th\u00e8mes.<\/p>\n

L'Ar\u00e9opagite a \u00e9crit quatre livres : 1) \u00ab Noms divins \u00bb : Dans ce livre, l'auteur parle des noms de Dieu mentionn\u00e9s dans le Livre Saint, expliquant l'essence de Dieu et ses attributs. 2) \u00ab Th\u00e9ologie soufie \u00bb : Ce livre contient cinq chapitres qui parlent de l\u2019union de l\u2019\u00e2me avec Dieu dans une union mystique qui est une sorte d\u2019abandon complet. L'\u00e2me est unie \u00e0 Dieu directement dans la contemplation par l'attraction et le pi\u00e9geage. 3) \u00ab Les rangs c\u00e9lestes \u00bb\u00a0: il contient des d\u00e9tails sur le monde des esprits c\u00e9lestes (c'est-\u00e0-dire les anges), leur nature et leurs attributs, ainsi que leur division en trois ch\u0153urs, chaque ch\u0153ur \u00e9tant compos\u00e9 de trois ch\u0153urs. 4) \u00ab\u00a0Rangs eccl\u00e9siastiques\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0: son auteur explique en d\u00e9tail les rangs eccl\u00e9siastiques, tant sacerdotaux que s\u00e9culiers. Denys a \u00e9galement cr\u00e9\u00e9 plusieurs trait\u00e9s de th\u00e9ologie qui abordaient la nature divine et humaine de J\u00e9sus-Christ, les t\u00e9n\u00e8bres et la lumi\u00e8re incompr\u00e9hensible, l'id\u00e9e du Dieu transcendant, le respect des rangs et la position du chr\u00e9tien pendant les pers\u00e9cutions.<\/p>\n

L'auteur de ces livres croit que Dieu est tr\u00e8s transcendant et incompr\u00e9hensible, et donc la th\u00e9ologie ne peut parler de Lui que dans l'exaltation et la n\u00e9gation, c'est-\u00e0-dire dans ce qu'Il n'est pas. Nous trouvons des traces de cette transcendance, par exemple, dans la messe divine, o\u00f9 le pr\u00eatre dit : \u00ab Car tu es le Dieu indescriptible, sans limites d'esprit, invisible, incompr\u00e9hensible. \u00bb Selon Denys, tous les noms de Dieu, tels que les noms de bont\u00e9, de lumi\u00e8re, de beaut\u00e9, d'amour, de sagesse, de v\u00e9rit\u00e9, de puissance, de justice, de bont\u00e9, de salut, de paix et autres, ne signifient rien sur l'entit\u00e9 incompr\u00e9hensible de Dieu. , et ils indiquent seulement les actions de Dieu et non son \u00eatre. Ici, dans sa noblesse de Dieu, il marche sur les traces de l'Ancien Testament et des p\u00e8res alexandrins et cappadociens. Dans ses \u00e9crits, Denys adopte une th\u00e9ologie absolue, car il n\u2019est pas possible de parler de Dieu dans un langage affirmatif. Par exemple, dans sa recherche du nom \u00ab l'Un \u00bb, il montre l'insuffisance de ce nom, et l'oppose \u00e0 un autre nom, qui est \u00ab le Supr\u00eame \u00bb, le nom de la Sainte Trinit\u00e9, qui nous enseigne que Dieu n'est ni l'un ni l'autre. l'Un ni le Multiple, car Dieu ne peut \u00eatre connu dans ce qu'Il est, c'est-\u00e0-dire qu'Il n'est pas d\u00e9nombrable. Mais Dieu descend vers nous dans ses \u00ab puissances \u00bb qui le r\u00e9v\u00e8lent, et nous montons vers lui dans \u00ab l'unit\u00e9 \u00bb o\u00f9 il reste inconnaissable par sa nature. Par cons\u00e9quent, transcender Dieu est un chemin vers l\u2019union mystique avec Lui. Denys consid\u00e8re que l'apparition supr\u00eame ou la manifestation compl\u00e8te de Dieu dans le monde \u00e0 travers l'incarnation du Verbe conserve son caract\u00e8re transcendant, r\u00e9v\u00e9lant ainsi ce qui n'est pas Lui par nature. \u00c0 ce sujet, Denys dit : \u00ab Dans l'humanit\u00e9 du Christ, le surnaturel s'est r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 dans une essence humaine, et il n'a cess\u00e9 d'\u00eatre cach\u00e9 apr\u00e8s cette manifestation, ou - dans une expression plus divine - dans cette manifestation m\u00eame. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Denys compare la relation entre Dieu et l\u2019homme \u00e0 une \u00e9chelle montant jusqu\u2019au ciel, dont le sommet perce les nuages qui entourent Dieu, et dont le bas est encastr\u00e9 dans le monde des choses mat\u00e9rielles. Entre le haut et le bas des escaliers, la lumi\u00e8re divine circule abondamment, mais son d\u00e9bordement perd de sa force et de sa richesse \u00e0 mesure qu'il descend vers les niveaux inf\u00e9rieurs. Par cons\u00e9quent, une personne doit s\u2019efforcer de gravir l\u2019\u00e9chelle vers Dieu et d\u2019augmenter le flux de lumi\u00e8re divine sur elle. Denys croit qu'il existe un Dieu unique de qui tout provient et \u00e0 qui tout retourne. Ainsi, Dieu est le Cr\u00e9ateur qui a tout cr\u00e9\u00e9 et \u00e0 qui tout revient.<\/p>\n

Ce que Denys a voulu montrer, c'est que la connaissance de Dieu ne s'acquiert que par un chemin dont le but n'est pas la connaissance, mais plut\u00f4t l'union avec Dieu, et donc la d\u00e9ification. Il n\u2019y a donc pas de th\u00e9ologie en dehors de l\u2019exp\u00e9rience. Celui qui suit cette voie, selon saint Gr\u00e9goire de Nazianze (+ 381), et pense un moment avoir connu Dieu, a un esprit corrompu. Afin de conna\u00eetre Dieu, nous devons nous approcher de Lui par la pri\u00e8re, le je\u00fbne et toutes les n\u00e9cessit\u00e9s de la vie en Christ. C'est ainsi.<\/p>\n
