Era vecchio quando i pagani lo presero dopo che i demoni avevano annunciato loro che non potevano pi\u00f9 accettare il loro sacrificio perch\u00e9 la preghiera di Antipa li avrebbe scacciati dalla citt\u00e0. Ci\u00f2 li spavent\u00f2 e li fece arrabbiare, cos\u00ec arrestarono Antipa e lo consegnarono al governatore, che cerc\u00f2 di costringerlo a non credere in Cristo e a tornare ad adorare gli idoli. La tesi del sovrano era che l\u2019idolatria era antica, mentre il cristianesimo era la religione di persone inutili, e il suo Cristo era stato eliminato perch\u00e9 infrangeva la legge.<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>Le argomentazioni del governatore non sono servite. Dopo qualche discussione, il santo di Dio fu gettato nel ventre di un toro di bronzo riscaldato, nel quale, come si diceva, furono gettati sacrifici agli idoli, e mor\u00ec.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c8 interessante notare che la data della sua morte non \u00e8 completamente specificata. Alcuni dicono intorno all&#039;anno 83 o 93, al tempo di Domiziano, e altri dicono intorno all&#039;anno 68 d.C., al tempo di Nerone.<\/p>\n<p>In ogni caso, il suo santuario a Pergamo \u00e8 stato nel corso dei secoli un luogo di pellegrinaggio e un ospedale per i malati, soprattutto per quelli che soffrivano di mal di denti.<\/p>\n<p>L&#039;evangelista Giovanni scrisse di lui nell&#039;Apocalisse le seguenti parole di Cristo, dette all&#039;angelo della chiesa di Pergamo, che sono: \u00abNon hai rinnegato la mia fede nemmeno nei giorni in cui Antipa, mio fedele martire, fu ucciso in mezzo a voi, dove abita Satana\u201d (Apocalisse 2\u2033 13).<\/p>\n<p>La chiesa lo festeggia l&#039;11 aprile<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Tropari nel quarto brano<br \/> Sei diventato simile agli apostoli nelle loro circostanze e un successore nelle loro cattedre, e attraverso il tuo lavoro sei stato promosso a rivoluzionario, o tu che mediti su Dio. Per questo hai seguito con integrit\u00e0 la parola della verit\u00e0 e hai lottato fino al sangue per la fede, o martire dei sacerdoti, Antipa.
