\"ProfetaAmos \u00e8 un'abbreviazione del nome Amoshiah, che significa "Dio porta". \u00c8 il primo profeta le cui azioni e parole furono registrate in un libro. Prima di lui ci furono altri profeti in Israele (Elia, Michea, Eliseo...) che furono menzionati nel Primo e nel Secondo Libro dei Re. Tuttavia, Amos \u00e8 il primo di una nuova stirpe di profeti che saranno chiamati \u201cprofeti della Bibbia\u201d perch\u00e9 le loro azioni saranno preservate nella Bibbia in libri che portano i loro nomi.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Amos era un residente del Regno di Giuda, del villaggio di Tekoa, un villaggio vicino a Betlemme. Profetizz\u00f2 ai giorni di Uzzia, re di Giuda (781-740) e ai giorni di Geroboamo figlio di Ioas, re d'Israele (787-747), due anni prima del terremoto, cio\u00e8 nel secondo quarto del VIII secolo a.C. Tuttavia non si considerava un profeta come tutti gli altri profeti che profetizzavano nella corte. Il re dice al sacerdote Amatsia: \u201cIo non sono n\u00e9 un profeta n\u00e9 figlio di un profeta, ma sono un pastore. e un potatore di sicomoro\u00bb (Amos 7:14). La profezia di Amos non era un lavoro, ma piuttosto una chiamata diretta di Dio: \u00abAllora il Signore mi distolse dal seguire le pecore e il Signore mi disse: Va' e profetizza al mio popolo Israele\u00bb (Amos 7:15). Cos\u00ec Amos annunci\u00f2 che Dio lo aveva scelto direttamente, per cui non poteva rifiutare: \u201c\u2026Il Signore ha parlato, chi non profetizzer\u00e0?\u201d (Amos 3:8).<\/p>\n

Durante il regno di Geroboamo, Israele godette di pace e la prosperit\u00e0 economica si diffuse in tutto il paese. Ma ci\u00f2 ha portato ad uno squilibrio sociale tra ricchi e poveri. I poveri vivevano una vita di agi, divertimenti e lusso: \u201cGiacciono su letti d'avorio, si sdraiano sui loro divani, e mangiano gli agnelli del gregge... e bevono vino da calici e si ungono con unguenti preziosi\u00bb (Amos 6,4-6). La solidariet\u00e0 tra i membri del popolo di Dio fu sostituita dallo sfruttamento e dall'oppressione dei bisognosi da parte degli anziani: \u201cPoich\u00e9 hanno venduto il giusto per argento, e il povero per due sandali; poich\u00e9 calpestano la testa dei deboli con la polvere di terra\u201d (Amos 2:6-7), facendo affidamento sulle sentenze ingiuste emesse dai tribunali: \u201cOpprimi i giusti, prendi regali e distorci i diritti dei poveri alla porta\u201d (Amos 5:12 ). I mercanti manipolavano la bilancia e sfruttavano i deboli vendevano gli scarti del grano ai prezzi pi\u00f9 alti: \u201c... riducendo l'efa, aumentando il peso e usando bilance ingannevoli, comprando i deboli per argento e i poveri per due sandali. e vendere gli scarti del grano\u201d (Amos 8:5).<\/p>\n

Amos rifiuta di permettere che i poveri siano vittime dei ricchi e attacca i riti religiosi perch\u00e9 ignorano lo stretto legame tra il servizio di Dio e il servizio del prossimo: \u00abHo odiato le vostre feste e le ho respinte, e le vostre celebrazioni non mi sono piaciute. Se mi offrite olocausti e le vostre offerte di cibo, non li accetter\u00f2, n\u00e9 aspetter\u00f2 i sacrifici di ringraziamento dei vostri animali ingrassati\u00bb (Amos 5:21-22). Esigeva il rispetto dei diritti delle persone, della giustizia e della rettitudine, non le lodi e i sacrifici imposti dai rituali. Celebrano le festivit\u00e0 e fanno molti sacrifici per compiacere Dio e cercare la Sua protezione. Tuttavia, adorandoli, aumentano i loro peccati, perch\u00e9 tale adorazione \u00e8 associata alla corruzione, all\u2019egoismo e all\u2019ingiustizia sociale. Ci\u00f2 che piace a Dio non \u00e8 che ci muoviamo da un tempio all'altro, ma piuttosto che cerchiamo il bene e stabiliamo la giustizia: \u00abCercate dunque il bene e non il male, affinch\u00e9 possiate vivere, e il Signore, Dio degli eserciti, sar\u00e0 con voi. come hai detto: Odiate il male, amate il bene e stabilite il diritto alla porta...\u201d (Amos 5,14-15).<\/p>\n

Perci\u00f2 le parole di Amos sembravano dure contro Israele: \u201c...Io ti ho colpito con la ruggine e l'avvizzimento, ho seccato i tuoi giardini e le tue vigne, e le locuste hanno mangiato i tuoi fichi e i tuoi ulivi... Ho ucciso i tuoi piccoli uomini di spada, e i tuoi cavalli saranno spogliati, e ti ho fatto salire alle narici il fetore del tuo accampamento... Perci\u00f2 cos\u00ec ti far\u00f2, o Israele, e poich\u00e9 ti far\u00f2 questo, cos\u00ec preparati a incontrare il tuo Dio, o Israele\u201d (Amos 4:4 12). Il peccato di Israele era arrivato a tal punto che il perdono era diventato impossibile. Il Signore tent\u00f2 invano, con una serie di piaghe, di far ritornare il suo popolo a Lui, ma inutilmente: \u201cPer le tre trasgressioni d'Israele, e per le quattro, io lo far\u00f2. non allontanarti dal mio giudizio\u201d (Amos 2:6). Pertanto, il Signore punir\u00e0 duramente i figli d'Israele e li punir\u00e0 ovunque si trovino.<\/p>\n

Il popolo era orgoglioso delle vittorie ottenute e sperava che arrivasse \u201cil Giorno del Signore\u201d, perch\u00e9 credeva che in questo giorno il Signore avrebbe condotto il suo popolo alla vittoria sugli altri popoli. Tuttavia, Amos annuncia loro che \u201cil Giorno del Signore\u201d non sar\u00e0 un giorno di felicit\u00e0, ma piuttosto di miseria e di oscurit\u00e0: \u201cGuai a coloro che desiderano il Giorno del Signore. Che sar\u00e0 il Giorno del Signore? Voi? Saranno tenebre e non luce\u201d (Amos 5:18). Perch\u00e9 quel giorno non \u00e8 la vittoria di Israele sulle nazioni, ma piuttosto la vittoria della giustizia sull'ingiustizia e della verit\u00e0 sul male.<\/p>\n
