Era un contemporaneo di Ignazio Evodio, e potrebbe aver condiviso contemporaneamente la guida della Chiesa di Antiochia (cristiani di origine ebraica, cristiani di origine gentile). C'\u00e8 una tradizione che dice che il bambino apparso nel Vangelo di Matteo 18 \u00e8 sant'Ignazio, ma Crisostomo non sostiene questa tradizione e conferma che Ignazio non vide il Signore. Gli studiosi della Chiesa collocano la sua nascita nell'anno 35 e che fu al sicuro ad Antiochia per mano degli apostoli e dei discepoli, e prese per s\u00e9 il titolo di Teoforo - il portatore di Dio.<\/p>\n

La sua politica di sponsorizzazione:<\/strong> Al santo non interessava spiegare le dottrine cristiane (la Santissima Trinit\u00e0 e l'unione delle due nature in Cristo), ma il suo interesse era piuttosto insegnare la fede cristiana, preservarla pura e unificare le fila dei membri della sua chiesa - Antiochia - e fu il primo a usare la parola \u201cuniversit\u00e0\u201d (cattolica) per riferirsi alla chiesa e a considerarla collegiale e non presidenziale. Organizz\u00f2 anche la chiesa: nella lettera agli Efesini chiarisce i ranghi sacerdotali e pone il vescovo a capo della chiesa locale, dicendo che egli \u00e8 Cristo, e dove c'\u00e8 Cristo, l\u00ec c'\u00e8 la chiesa, e poi gli anziani. e rendendoli modelli per i credenti, proprio come gli apostoli sono modelli per i credenti, poi i diaconi e rispettandoli come se rispettassero i comandamenti di Dio. Rende impopolare qualsiasi opera presentata alla chiesa senza l'approvazione del vescovo, quindi non va fatto da soli, e fa del sacrificio divino un sacramento praticato solo dal vescovo e da coloro da lui autorizzati.<\/p>\n

Giudizio sul santo:<\/strong> Nerone aveva stabilito una legge che considerava fuorilegge chiunque professasse il cristianesimo. Seguirono Vespasiano, Tito e Domiziano. Nel 99 l'imperatore Traiano approv\u00f2 la legge di Nerone e ne ordin\u00f2 l'attuazione, spiegando a Plinio, sovrano della Bitinia, che chiunque si dichiarasse cristiano sarebbe stato giustiziato a meno che non avesse rinunciato alla propria fede. Tra coloro che furono martirizzati a causa di questa legge ci furono san Clemente, terzo vescovo di Roma dopo l'apostolo Pietro nell'anno 100, e Simone, vescovo di Gerusalemme nell'anno 107. Questa legge potrebbe essere ci\u00f2 che port\u00f2 al martirio di Ignazio Teoforo.<\/p>\n

Secondo la tradizione, il sovrano romano accus\u00f2 Ignazio di disobbedire ai suoi ordini di diavolo e di tentare le persone a distruggere le loro anime (predicando Cristo). Il santo gli rispose che gli dei romani erano demoni e temevano i figli di Dio, e che esisteva un solo Dio. Il governatore gli disse: \u00abVuoi dire Cristo che Pilato ha appeso alla croce?\u00bb. Il santo gli rispose: Bisogna dire che Ges\u00f9, che ha appeso sulla croce il peccato e il suo artefice, ha dato a coloro che lo portano nel cuore il potere di schiacciare l'inferno e la sua potenza. Il sovrano gli disse: Allora porti Ges\u00f9 nel tuo grembo? Ignazio disse: Non c\u2019\u00e8 dubbio su questo, perch\u00e9 \u00e8 stato detto: \u201cVerr\u00f2 in mezzo a loro e camminer\u00f2 con loro\u201d. Il sovrano non ebbe altra scelta che emettere l'ordine il 6 gennaio 107 di ammanettare Ignazio e mandarlo a Roma per essere gettato alle bestie davanti al popolo. Qui il santo esclam\u00f2 dicendo: Grazie, Signore, perch\u00e9 mi hai donato il tuo amore totale e mi hai onorato con le restrizioni con cui hai onorato Paolo. Poi preg\u00f2 per la chiesa, gliela affid\u00f2 e si consegn\u00f2 alla polizia.<\/p>\n

Lo hanno citato:<\/strong> Il santo arriv\u00f2 nella capitale dell'impero. Era la data delle feste di chiusura romane. I romani scendevano al Colosseo Flaviano per celebrare le vittorie di Triano e per assistere alla sanguinosa lotta tra famiglie, criminali e bestie feroci. I due compagni del santo furono martirizzati in questo anfiteatro il 18 dicembre. Il ventesimo, il santo portatore di Dio fu spogliato delle sue vesti e gettato in pasto alle bestie, che gli strapparono il corpo puro e lo divorarono. Tutto ci\u00f2 che restava del suo corpo erano le ossa, cos\u00ec i credenti le raccolsero e le mandarono ad Antiochia. Quindi fu sepolta fuori dalle mura. Poi fu trasferito ai tempi di Teodosio il Giovane sui resti della chiesa che era il Tempio della Fortuna nel cuore di Antiochia, e la chiesa prese il suo nome in sua memoria. La sua festa: Si narra che i credenti di Roma, dopo aver assistito alla sua morte gloriosa, rimasero svegli tutta la notte pregando il Signore affinch\u00e9 rafforzasse la loro debolezza, poi il martire apparve loro sotto forma di un combattente uscito vittorioso dalla battaglia , ed il loro cuore si riemp\u00ec di gioia.I fratelli di Antiochia designarono il giorno del suo martirio come una festa per la quale la Chiesa lo celebra. La Chiesa ortodossa lo celebra ancora oggi. Quanto alla Chiesa cattolica, ha spostato la festa al primo febbraio. Forse per abbinare il giorno del suo martirio con quello della traslazione delle sue spoglie.<\/p>\n

Vescovo<\/span>
\u00abDove c'\u00e8 il vescovo deve esserci il gregge, come dove c'\u00e8 Cristo deve esserci la Chiesa universale\u00bb (Sal 8,2).<\/p>\n

All\u2019inizio di ogni lettera parla del vescovo della citt\u00e0 e del popolo, dice del vescovo di Filadelfia: \u00abSo che questo vescovo \u00abnon ha ricevuto il servizio del gregge, n\u00e9 da se stesso n\u00e9 dagli uomini\u00bb. (Galati 1:1), n\u00e9 per amore di vanagloria, ma per amore di Dio Padre e di Ges\u00f9 Cristo. Siamo rimasti affascinati dalla sua dolcezza, il suo silenzio pu\u00f2 fare molto di pi\u00f9 dei discorsi pretenziosi... La sua natura calma, che non conosce rabbia, mi fa capire che la virt\u00f9 del suo pensiero \u00e8 completa e che vive con tutta la mitezza del Dio vivente\u00bb (Filadelfia 1:1).<\/p>\n

Il vescovo rappresenta Cristo nella chiesa e gode dell'obbedienza dei credenti, anche se \u00e8 giovane, perch\u00e9 chi non \u00e8 in disaccordo con il parere del vescovo si preserva dal cadere nell'eresia. Dice: \u201cNessuno di voi faccia alcuna cosa relativa alla chiesa senza la volont\u00e0 del vescovo\u201d (Salmo 8:1). \u201cDevi essere dello stesso parere col tuo vescovo\u201d (Efesini 4:1). \u201cTi invidio per il tuo legame permanente con il tuo vescovo, come la Chiesa \u00e8 unita a Cristo e Cristo Ges\u00f9 al Padre, il tutto in completa unit\u00e0\u201d (Efesini 6:1).<\/p>\n

Il vescovo vigila sull'amministrazione di tutti i sacramenti della chiesa: \u00abSenza il vescovo non \u00e8 lecito n\u00e9 il battesimo n\u00e9 la festa della carit\u00e0\u00bb (Salmo 8,2). \u00abGli uomini e le donne che si sposano devono avere la loro unione sotto l'autorit\u00e0 del vescovo, affinch\u00e9 il matrimonio sia secondo il Signore e non secondo il desiderio\u00bb (Policarpo 5:2).<\/p>\n

Sant\u2019Ignazio consiglia a ogni vescovo: \u201cGiustifica la tua eminenza con la tua grande attivit\u00e0, fisica e spirituale, e presta attenzione all\u2019unit\u00e0 che trascende tutti i beni. Sopporta tutti come il Signore sopporta te, e sopportali con amore come fai tu. Trascorri il tuo tempo in preghiere costanti. Aumenta la tua saggezza in modo pi\u00f9 saggio e rimani sveglio con uno spirito che non conosce il sonno. Si rivolgeva a ciascuno individualmente affinch\u00e9 imitassero la morale di Dio\u00bb (Policarpo 1,2-3).<\/p>\n
