Era il figlio di una nobile famiglia cristiana della provincia della Macedonia, nel nord della Grecia. Suo padre era un comandante militare che lo ha allevato con autocontrollo, jihad e onest\u00e0, oltre a un patrimonio di conoscenze, poi si \u00e8 arruolato nell&#039;esercito come suo padre ed \u00e8 diventato un comandante militare. Massimiano lo aveva nominato, nonostante la sua giovane et\u00e0, comandante dell&#039;esercito della Tessaglia e console (governatore) della Grecia. Era pronto al martirio, attendeva con impazienza la fine delle celebrazioni per incontrare il Signore, battezzato con il suo sangue.<\/p>\n<p>Era consuetudine organizzare feste di wrestling durante le feste della vittoria, e c&#039;era un campione di nome Hawash che uccise tutti i suoi avversari e vinse tutti gli incontri. Un giovane cristiano di nome Nestore, che era debole e credente, lo sfid\u00f2. Ha chiesto le preghiere di Demetrio in prigione ed \u00e8 entrato sul ring gridando: Oh Dio, Demetrio, aiutami, cos\u00ec \u00e8 andato ad Haush e lo ha colpito. L&#039;imperatore si arrabbi\u00f2 e ordin\u00f2 l&#039;uccisione di Nestorio, Demetrio e del suo servitore Lupus, che comp\u00ec miracoli con gli abiti e l&#039;anello del santo.<\/p>\n<p>Quanto alle spoglie del santo, uomini pii le presero di nascosto e le seppellirono. Dio diede un segno della santit\u00e0 del suo martire che il profumo cominci\u00f2 a sgorgare dai suoi resti e guar\u00ec molte delle loro malattie, tanto che la chiesa lo chiam\u00f2 \u201cil buono traboccante\u201d. \u00c8 interessante notare che l&#039;odore del profumo si diffonde ancora oggi dalla sua tomba. Il suo santuario \u00e8 depositato in una chiesa che porta il suo nome nel cuore della citt\u00e0 di Salonicco, dove \u00e8 considerato l&#039;intercessore della citt\u00e0 e il suo salvatore dalle avversit\u00e0 e dalle angosce. Ancora oggi per lui si tengono festeggiamenti speciali che coinvolgono l&#039;intera citt\u00e0 ogni anno e per un&#039;intera settimana.<\/p>\n<p>La chiesa lo festeggia il ventisei ottobre <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Tropario del Santo:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIl mondo abitato ha trovato in te un grande salvatore nei momenti di avversit\u00e0 e un
