A Igreja Ortodoxa, que olha para o ser humano como um todo, corpo e alma, sempre enfatizou a domestica\u00e7\u00e3o do corpo juntamente com a domestica\u00e7\u00e3o do esp\u00edrito. Sua dura\u00e7\u00e3o varia de uma semana a seis semanas.<\/li>\n<li>O jejum da Dormi\u00e7\u00e3o de Nossa Senhora dura duas semanas, de primeiro a 14 de agosto.<\/li>\n<li>O jejum de Natal dura quarenta dias, de 15 de novembro a 24 de dezembro.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Al\u00e9m destes per\u00edodos principais de jejum, todas as quartas e sextas-feiras (e todas as segundas-feiras em alguns mosteiros) s\u00e3o dias de jejum (exceto no per\u00edodo entre o Natal e a Epifania, e durante toda a Semana das Renova\u00e7\u00f5es (ou seja, a semana imediatamente seguinte \u00e0 P\u00e1scoa, e durante a semana seguinte ao Pentecostes).) Tendo em conta todos os tipos de indulg\u00eancias conhecidos no nosso tempo, \u00e9 certo que os crist\u00e3os ortodoxos do s\u00e9culo XX, tanto leigos como monges, jejuam com uma seriedade que n\u00e3o tem paralelo no cristianismo ocidental, exceto em algumas ordens mon\u00e1sticas estritas.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Temporadas:<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Alguns per\u00edodos do ano lit\u00fargico s\u00e3o caracterizados por celebra\u00e7\u00f5es especiais, como a consagra\u00e7\u00e3o da \u00e1gua na Festa da Epifania, que muitas vezes acontece ao ar livre, em frente a um rio ou \u00e0 beira-mar, como a b\u00ean\u00e7\u00e3o dos frutos no Dia da Transfigura\u00e7\u00e3o, o servi\u00e7o de levantar a cruz e prostrar-se diante dela em 14 de setembro, e a ora\u00e7\u00e3o do perd\u00e3o no domingo imediatamente antes da Grande Quaresma, quando crentes e sacerdotes se ajoelham pedindo perd\u00e3o. Mas o culto ortodoxo atinge o seu apogeu durante a Grande Semana Santa, quando a Igreja entra, dia ap\u00f3s dia e hora ap\u00f3s hora, na Paix\u00e3o do Senhor. At\u00e9 o final da Primeira Guerra Mundial, todos os ortodoxos usavam o (antigo) calend\u00e1rio, ou seja, o calend\u00e1rio juliano, que est\u00e1 treze dias atr\u00e1s do (novo) ou calend\u00e1rio gregoriano seguido no Ocidente. Em 1923, o Patriarca Ecum\u00eanico convocou uma confer\u00eancia geral ortodoxa a ser realizada em Constantinopla, com a presen\u00e7a de delegados das igrejas da S\u00e9rvia, Rom\u00eania, Gr\u00e9cia e Chipre. Os Patriarcas de Antioquia e de Jerusal\u00e9m recusaram-se a enviar os seus representantes. Quanto ao Patriarca de Alexandria, n\u00e3o respondeu ao convite. O convite n\u00e3o foi enviado \u00e0 Igreja da Bulg\u00e1ria, enquanto as condi\u00e7\u00f5es da Igreja Russa n\u00e3o lhe permitiam participar. Esta confer\u00eancia apresentou algumas propostas para estudo, incluindo o casamento de bispos, permitindo o segundo casamento de padres vi\u00favos, e a ado\u00e7\u00e3o do calend\u00e1rio gregoriano. Nenhuma igreja ortodoxa concordou com as duas primeiras propostas, mas a terceira proposta foi aprovada e implementada por. algumas igrejas independentes. Em mar\u00e7o de 1924, Constantinopla adotou o novo calend\u00e1rio e, no mesmo ano ou pouco depois, foi adotado por toda Alexandria, Antioquia, Gr\u00e9cia, Chipre, Rom\u00eania e Pol\u00f4nia. Quanto \u00e0s igrejas de Jerusal\u00e9m, R\u00fassia, S\u00e9rvia e Pol\u00f4nia. os mosteiros da gera\u00e7\u00e3o Athos continuaram a adotar o antigo calend\u00e1rio. Quanto \u00e0 Bulg\u00e1ria, adoptou o novo calend\u00e1rio em 1968. Esta diferen\u00e7a de posi\u00e7\u00f5es criou uma realidade de confus\u00e3o, que esperamos que seja rapidamente resolvida. Quanto \u00e0 Igreja finlandesa e algumas dioceses de imigrantes, celebram a P\u00e1scoa na mesma data que as igrejas ocidentais.<\/p>\n<p>A mudan\u00e7a do calend\u00e1rio suscitou forte oposi\u00e7\u00e3o, especialmente na Gr\u00e9cia, onde grupos de \u201cseguidores do calend\u00e1rio antigo\u201d (que t\u00eam mais de um bispo) continuam a seguir este calend\u00e1rio, e acreditam que tanto o calend\u00e1rio como a fixa\u00e7\u00e3o da data da P\u00e1scoa s\u00e3o relacionadas com uma decis\u00e3o da Igreja emitida pelos Conc\u00edlios Ecum\u00e9nicos, e n\u00e3o podem ser modificadas, exceto por uma decis\u00e3o de toda a Igreja Ortodoxa e n\u00e3o por algumas igrejas independentes que agem por sua pr\u00f3pria iniciativa. Quanto aos mosteiros do Monte Athos (com exce\u00e7\u00e3o de um deles), que se recusaram a adotar o novo calend\u00e1rio, ainda mant\u00eam comunh\u00e3o com o Patriarca de Constantinopla e com a Igreja Grega, mas (seguidores do calend\u00e1rio antigo) em outras regi\u00f5es da Gr\u00e9cia foram submetidos \u00e0 excomunh\u00e3o pela igreja oficial.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ora\u00e7\u00e3o individual<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ora\u00e7\u00e3o di\u00e1ria:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Quando a ora\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 mencionada, o Ortodoxo pensa primeiro na ora\u00e7\u00e3o lit\u00fargica colectiva, porque a liturgia desempenha um papel mais importante para a sua experi\u00eancia espiritual do que para a maioria dos crist\u00e3os ocidentais.
