Padre Romanides:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

O Padre Romanides revelou numa introdu\u00e7\u00e3o sobre si mesmo, algo que raramente fazia, que:<\/p>\n

\u201cMeus pais vieram da cidade romana de Castropolis em Arabassu, Capad\u00f3cia, cidade natal do imperador romano Maur\u00edcio (582-602), que nomeou S\u00e3o Greg\u00f3rio Magno (590-604) como Papa de Roma, que por sua vez nomeou Agostinho o primeiro arcebispo de Canterbury.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Nasci em Berea em 2 de mar\u00e7o de 1927. Deixei a Gr\u00e9cia com minha fam\u00edlia para imigrar para a Am\u00e9rica em 15 de maio de 1927, com apenas 72 dias de idade, e fui criado em Manhattan, na cidade de Nova York.<\/p>\n

Sou formado pelo Greek College of Brooklyn, pela Divinity School da Universidade de Yale, com doutorado pela Escola de Teologia da Universidade Nacional de Atenas e pela Escola de Filosofia da Universidade de Harvard (Faculdade de Artes e Ci\u00eancias). \u201cSou professor honor\u00e1rio da Faculdade de Teologia da Universidade de Sal\u00f3nica e professor visitante do Instituto Teol\u00f3gico S\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o de Damasco da Universidade de Balamand, no L\u00edbano, desde 1970\u201d.<\/p>\n

A estes acrescentaremos que tamb\u00e9m estudou no Instituto Saint Vladimir em Nova York, no Instituto Saint Sergius em Paris, bem como em Munique, Alemanha. Foi ordenado sacerdote em 1951 e, desde ent\u00e3o, serviu em diversas dioceses dos Estados Unidos da Am\u00e9rica. Ele tamb\u00e9m atuou como professor no Col\u00e9gio de Teologia da Santa Cruz, mas renunciou em 1965, em protesto contra a demiss\u00e3o do Padre George Florovsky do col\u00e9gio.<\/p>\n

Foi nomeado para a c\u00e1tedra de doutrina da Faculdade de Teologia da Universidade de Sal\u00f3nica em 12 de junho de 1968, mas n\u00e3o ingressou porque foi acusado de comunismo. Ele acabou se comprometendo l\u00e1 em 1970. Renunciou em 1984 por motivos pessoais e recebeu indeniza\u00e7\u00e3o integral, mas o que n\u00e3o convinha foi dar-lhe o t\u00edtulo de professor em\u00e9rito.<\/p>\n

Suas obras<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Entre seus escritos h\u00e1 uma abund\u00e2ncia de estudos, muitos dos quais permanecem in\u00e9ditos, e deveriam ser publicados na \u00edntegra em uma s\u00e9rie de partes. Estes monumentos devem ser preservados porque t\u00eam muito para oferecer e mostrar.<\/p>\n

A sua tese de doutoramento sobre o \u201cpecado original\u201d foi uma investiga\u00e7\u00e3o revolucion\u00e1ria em todos os sentidos da palavra, pois abriu novos caminhos na nossa teologia, seguida pelos seus livros relevantes sobre o Romanismo no campo da hist\u00f3ria. Padre John reviveu a pesquisa e a compreens\u00e3o. Andrew Sopko escreveu sua tese de doutorado intitulada \u201cO Profeta da Ortodoxia Romana \u2013 A Teologia do Padre John Romanides\u201d, no Canad\u00e1 em 1998. Nesta tese, Sopko examinou sistematicamente as obras do Padre Romanides e sua contribui\u00e7\u00e3o para a ci\u00eancia.<\/p>\n

Igualmente importante foi a sua contribui\u00e7\u00e3o para a nossa Igreja, ao participar em di\u00e1logos teol\u00f3gicos com n\u00e3o-ortodoxos, especialmente anglicanos, bem como com n\u00e3o-crist\u00e3os (judeus e mu\u00e7ulmanos). O fato de o ingl\u00eas ser sua l\u00edngua nativa o ajudou e lhe proporcionou a facilidade necess\u00e1ria para articular com precis\u00e3o as posi\u00e7\u00f5es de nossa igreja. No di\u00e1logo com a Federa\u00e7\u00e3o Luterana Mundial (1978), tive a oportunidade de conhec\u00ea-lo melhor, de me tornar seu amigo, e o que \u00e9 mais importante para mim \u00e9 que me tornei seu aluno, al\u00e9m de me dedicar a estudo extenso e cont\u00ednuo de suas obras. Nestes di\u00e1logos, o seu conhecimento da tradi\u00e7\u00e3o patr\u00edstica ficou claramente evidente, em paralelo com o seu conhecimento da falsifica\u00e7\u00e3o a que esta tradi\u00e7\u00e3o foi submetida, tanto no Oriente como no Ocidente. O seu conhecimento da teologia de S\u00e3o Greg\u00f3rio Palamas, pedra angular da tradi\u00e7\u00e3o ortodoxa, foi particularmente evidente.<\/p>\n

Padre John foi um defensor da conex\u00e3o entre a teologia e a experi\u00eancia do Esp\u00edrito Santo, e um defensor do ensino sobre as etapas do progresso espiritual dos santos (purifica\u00e7\u00e3o - ilumina\u00e7\u00e3o - deifica\u00e7\u00e3o) como requisitos b\u00e1sicos para os conc\u00edlios ecum\u00eanicos e para sua aceita\u00e7\u00e3o sincera, que foi negligenciado no Ocidente e at\u00e9 mesmo no nosso pensamento teol\u00f3gico ocidentalizado. Esta tend\u00eancia para o pensamento patr\u00edstico como forma de autenticidade eclesi\u00e1stica foi uma continua\u00e7\u00e3o e conclus\u00e3o da tend\u00eancia do Padre George Florovsky, cujo caminho o Padre Romanides seguiu no di\u00e1logo ecum\u00e9nico, e seguindo o seu exemplo, ele tamb\u00e9m se tornou uma fonte de inc\u00f4modo e rigidez em lidar com isso. Um dia, tudo isto ser\u00e1 escrito, e a personalidade proeminente deste falecido aparecer\u00e1, juntamente com a sua verdadeira contribui\u00e7\u00e3o para a presen\u00e7a global e ecum\u00eanica da Ortodoxia.<\/p>\n

Antes e depois Romanides<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Ao rever a sua obra teol\u00f3gica, educativa, liter\u00e1ria e militante, somos naturalmente obrigados a referir-nos a dois per\u00edodos: antes de Romanides e depois dele. Ele introduziu uma verdadeira ruptura e ruptura em nossa hist\u00f3ria escol\u00e1stica, o que equivalia a um cativeiro babil\u00f4nico de nossa teologia. Sua tese selou esse caminho revivalista a tal ponto que sua influ\u00eancia no pensamento teol\u00f3gico apareceu at\u00e9 mesmo nos escritos daqueles que o criticaram por diversas raz\u00f5es ou se opuseram intelectualmente. Entre as conquistas do Padre John em particular:<\/p>\n

  1. Ele restaurou a prioridade da teologia patr\u00edstica emp\u00edrica no campo da teologia acad\u00eamica, descartando o m\u00e9todo racional-especulativo-metaf\u00edsico da teologia.<\/li>\n
  2. Ele vinculou a teologia acad\u00eamica ao culto e \u00e0 tradi\u00e7\u00e3o patr\u00edstica da Filocalia, demonstrando a interconex\u00e3o entre teologia e vida espiritual e a qualidade espiritual terap\u00eautica da teologia dogm\u00e1tica.<\/li>\n
  3. No seu m\u00e9todo teol\u00f3gico, percebeu e abra\u00e7ou a forte liga\u00e7\u00e3o entre doutrina e hist\u00f3ria, e gra\u00e7as a este m\u00e9todo p\u00f4de compreender, como poucos, que a teologia se ocidentalizou na Europa Ocidental e morreu sob a influ\u00eancia da for\u00e7a imposta pelo Ocupa\u00e7\u00e3o franca. Al\u00e9m disso, o seu amplo conhecimento da hist\u00f3ria franca e romana (ele foi professor de hist\u00f3ria na Universidade de Yale) ajudou-o a identificar e analisar a oposi\u00e7\u00e3o entre as civiliza\u00e7\u00f5es franca e romana, ao mesmo tempo que forneceu padr\u00f5es romanos para examinar a nossa hist\u00f3ria e civiliza\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/li>\n
  4. Assim, ele tamb\u00e9m ajudou na ampla pesquisa sobre o helenismo, para al\u00e9m dos cen\u00e1rios ocidentais fabricados, por meio do uso correto e qualificado dos nomes hist\u00f3ricos, de sua import\u00e2ncia e de seu papel no curso de nossa hist\u00f3ria.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    N\u00e3o Ortodoxo<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

     Na verdade, os n\u00e3o-ortodoxos, mais do que n\u00f3s, reconheceram a personalidade do Padre Jo\u00e3o e a sua import\u00e2ncia para a Ortodoxia. Ele foi considerado o pesquisador ortodoxo mais experiente no pensamento de Agostinho, ajudando at\u00e9 mesmo a teologia ocidental a compreend\u00ea-lo. Ele foi distinguido como \u201ccertamente o mais importante te\u00f3logo ortodoxo cujas obras inclu\u00edram um estudo cr\u00edtico do pensamento de Agostinho \u00e0 luz da teologia patr\u00edstica\u201d. Devemos mencionar que estamos em d\u00edvida com o Padre Jo\u00e3o pela sua afirma\u00e7\u00e3o muito importante de que o ensinamento de Barla\u00e3o da Cal\u00e1bria, que diz que as experi\u00eancias dos profetas na percep\u00e7\u00e3o de Deus s\u00e3o \u201cfen\u00f3menos naturais, que podem ser realizados ou negligenciados\u201d, \u00e9 um ensinamento derivado do tratado de Agostinho sobre a Trindade.<\/p>\n

    Querido e respeitado Padre John, todos os seus amigos e colegas que s\u00e3o seus porta-vozes expressam sua gratid\u00e3o por tudo o que voc\u00ea nos deu pela gra\u00e7a de Deus, e com eles est\u00e3o milhares de alunos diretos e indiretos. Apegamo-nos \u00e0 verdade teol\u00f3gica que nos foi deixada, para que ela possa ser uma tocha para n\u00f3s nas trevas semeadas pela ignor\u00e2ncia, evas\u00e3o, indiferen\u00e7a e conveni\u00eancia. Voc\u00ea nos uniu ao elemento patr\u00edstico embutido no mundo da teologia acad\u00eamica com o est\u00edmulo constante ao culto e \u00e0 pr\u00e1tica asc\u00e9tica, onde emerge a verdadeira teologia.
