في أن الإله لا يُدرك، وفي أنه ينبغي ألاّ نبحث ولا ندقّق في ما لم نتسلمه من الأنبياء والإنجيليين القدّيسين: -“الله لم يره أحد قط. الابن الوحيد الذي في حضن الآب هو أخبر” (يوحنا 1: 18). فالإله إذاً يَعجز بيانه ولا يُدرك، لأنه “ليس يعرف الآب إلاّ الابن، ولا أحد يعرف الإبن إلا الآب” (متى 11: 27). ويعرف الروحُ القدس ما في الله كما يعرف روحُ الإنسان مافي الإنسان (1كور 2: 11). أما ماعدا الطبيعة الأولى السعيدة، فلم يعرف أحد قط الله، لا من البشر فحسب، حتى ولا من القوات الفائقة العالم، أي الكيروبيم والسيرافيم أنفُسهم إلا الذي اعتلن هو تعالى نفسه له.
بيد أن الله لم يدَعنا في جهل تامّ. فإنه قد زرع هو نفسُه في طبيعتنا جميعاً المعرفة بأنه تعالى موجود، والطبيعة نفسها – بائتلافها وانقيادها- تذيع هي أيضاً عظمةَ الطبيعة الإلهية. وقد أوضح لنا معرفته بالشريعة والأنبياء أول، ثم بابنه ربنا وإلهنا ومخلصنا يسوع المسيح، ذلك على قدر استطاعتنا. لذلك، كل ما تسلّمناه من الشريعة والأنبياء والرسل والإنجيليين نتقبّله ونعرفه ونوقّره، غير فاحصين عمّا سوى ذلك البتة. فلمّا كان الله صالح، فهو فياض بكل صلاح، دون أن يخضع البتة لبخل وانفعال ما. فما أبعد البخل عن الطبيعة الإلهية الصالحة وحدها والمنزهة عن الانفعال! وعليه، لمّا كان تعالى يعرف كل شيء، وسبق فهيأ لكل ما يوافقه، فقد أعلن لنا كل ما يفيدنا أن نعرفه، وصمت عمّالا نستطيع احتماله. فاذاّ علينا نحن أن نؤثر ذلك، ونقنع به، “ولا نزيح الحدود القديمة” (أمثال 22: 28)، فنتجاوز التقليد الإلهي.
