Isidore of Fermi, the righteous saint

On the fourth day of the month of February, the Holy Church celebrates our righteous father Isidore of Fermi. This saint was born in the city of Alexandria around the year 360 from a noble and wealthy family. She was educated in worldly and high religious sciences and was a student of Saint John Chrysostom for a time. He excelled in knowledge until he became one of the most prominent scholars of his time. But his exile loved a life of tranquility and asceticism, so he left his wealth, money, and family, and became a monk in a monastery in a young generation near the city of Pelusius, east of the Nile Delta, which is now called Pharmos. Therefore, he was called Isidore the Fermi and was nicknamed in foreign languages, Pelusioti.

In the monastery, Isidoros showed courage and seriousness in work and monastic commitment in its various forms and expressions, to the point that he surpassed his fellow monks. He was greatly distinguished by his deep humility, continuous fasting, and strict jihad until he became a role model for his brothers, who loved him, respected him, and handed over their leadership to him, so that he became, in a short time, the supreme head of the monasteries in the Egyptian desert.

أراد بطريرك الإسكندرية أي يفيد الكنيسة من خبرات إيسيذوروس وغيرته الرسولية المشتعلة فرفعه إلى درجة الكهنوت المقدسة وأطلقه كرسول للمسيح يخدم الكنيسة ويعلن حقيقة الإيمان المسيحي القويم خلاصاً للنفوس وبنياناً لها وتقوية وتثبيتاً في وجه الهرطقات. فانير يدافع عن العقيدة الأرثوذكسية ويكتب ويعلم ويعظ ويرشد…

ولما كان معروفاً لدى جميع الناس بفضيلته وزهده وتقواه وتجرده اكتسب ثقة جعلت منه حجة لا تقاوم ومرجعاً لاهوتياً كبيراً ملزماً. وقد استطاع أن يقنع علماء اليهود بشرحه لكتب الأنبياء في العهد القديم وأن يدحض مغالطات البدع في كتاباته عن حقيقة الثالوث القدوس والتجسد الإلهي والفداء الخلاصي….

أما مهمته الكبرى الصعبة والموفقة في آن معاً فكانت في مواقفه الهجومية العنيفة تجاه الشر والأشرار، أينما وجدهم ومهماً علا شأنهم. فكان يقرع ويؤنب ويوبخ ويدافع عن القيم الأخلاقية وعن العدالة الإجتماعية في وجه الظالم إنصافاً للمظلوم… وكانت كلمته مسموعة وإرشاداته مطاعة لأنه لم يكن يبتغي من وراء كل ذلك سوى مجد الله وخير الإنسان وخلاصه. حتى أن البطريرك الإسكندري القديس كيرللس كان يسمع له يطيعه لكونه كان أباً روحياً مرشداً له، ذلك أن القلوب الكبيرة لا تكابر في طاعة الحق ولا تحالف سبله بل تتواضع وتنسحق أمامه.

عاش الأب إيسيذوروس سنين طويلة في خدمة كنيسة الله المقدسة وترك لنا كتابات ورسائل عديدة تضمنت تعاليمه الروحية واللاهوتية السديدة ومواقفه الرسولية الجريئة شهادة لم قال: “أنا هو الطريق والحق والحياة”. رقد بالرب سنة 449 مملوءاً فضيلة وبراً وقداسة. ألا نفعنا الله بقدوة حياته وصلاته، آمين.
