Contrast between the Word of God and the Human Word: – Then the one and only God is not without a Word. And since God has His Word, it is not without a Person. As for the existence of the Word, it has no beginning and no end. So there was no time when God the Word was not. And God has His Word, always born of Him. It is not hypostatic like our word which is dispersed in the air. Rather, it is a living, perfect Person who does not depart from Him, but is always present in Him. So where, then, would it exist outside of Him? And since our nature is fleeting and quickly dissolves, therefore our Word also is hypostatic. As for God, who is always existing and perfect, He also has His Word, complete, hypostatic, always existing and living, having everything that its Father has. For just as our word, because it proceeds from our reason, is not in all things one with our reason, and is not in all things other than it, - since it is from reason, it is not what it is, and since it leads reason to reveal itself, it is not in all things other than reason - but since they are one in nature, it is not what it is in subjection. So also say of the Word of God, since it exists in itself, it is distinguished from God, from whom it has its hypostasis, and - while it manifests in itself what it sees in God - it has the same nature as God. For just as perfection is seen in the Father in all things, so it is seen in the Word who was born of him.
