She is the same Samaritan woman whom Jesus spoke to at Jacob's well, as mentioned in the Gospel of John (4: 4-30). This saint preached the Gospel in Carthage after she had converted her four sisters, Photia, Photila, Praskevi, and Kyriaki, and her two sons, Joses and Victor. Her son Victor was a soldier and a high-ranking officer in Galilee, sent by Nero Caesar to strike the Christians there.
He preached the Gospel and converted many. All of them were arrested, imprisoned, tortured, and died for Christ. They are all commemorated on February 26th of each year.
What we learn from the life of Saint Fotina (which means enlightened in Arabic) is her preaching of the Lord Jesus. After meeting the Lord with her, she went to her city and preached, saying: “Come and see. A man told me everything I ever did.” She did the same with her brothers and children. Hasn’t the Lord God given us to be preachers of His name, enlightening those around us?
Through the intercession of Saint Fotina (Munira), O Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
Troparia in the fourth tune
Your martyrs, O Lord, through their struggle, have received from You, O our God, imperishable crowns, because they have attained Your power and have crushed the usurpers and crushed the powerless might of the demons. Through their supplications, O Christ God, save our souls.
