كان الشهيد قسطنطين كاهناً ملحقاً بالسفارة الروسية في القسطنطينية لما اندلعت الحرب بين روسيا وتركيا. لم يشأ العودة إلى بلاده، بل توجه إلى الجبل المقدس في آثوس حيث نزل في دير اللافرا الكبير.
عاد إلى القسطنطينية بعد عودة السلام. حصل خلاف بينه وبين السفير الروسي. دُعي إلى حضرة السلطان. قبض عليه الشيطان فكفر بإيمانه واقتبل الإسلام. عاد إلى نفسه بعد أيام. استفاق كما من سُكْر. خلع لباسه التركي ولبس ثوبه الكهنوتي من جديد. وقف ثانية أمام السلطان واعترف بالمسيح إلهاً.
جرى على الفور توقيفه وإعدامه أمام القصر السلطاني. كان ذلك في السادس والعشرين من شهر كانون الأول من عام 1742م.
