عاش في القرن الثامن، ترهب صغيرا واجتهد في دروب النسك والصلاة المستمرة اجتهادا كبيرا. تنقى من كل هوى بنعمة الله. كان شديد العطف على الفقراء، لا يمنع عنهم شيئا من مقتنياته، حتى ثيابه التي على بدنه. امتاز بتواضعه ولطفه وحلاوة طبعه.
اختير رئيسا لدير البلاكيت في قمة الأوليمبوس البثينية زمن الاضطهاد الذي عانى منه مكرمو الإيقونات. تمسك بالإيقونات المقدسة ودافع عن إكرامها. نال حظه من التنكيل أيام الأمبراطور البيزنطي لاون الإيصافري. جرى نفيه وأربعين من رهبانه إلى مكان ما قرب أفسس حيث مات في السجن. سُرَّ الله ان تجري برشفاته عجائب جمّة.
