إنّ نفس المخلّص المتألّهة قد انحدرت إلى الجحيم، حتى إنه، كما أشرقت شمس العدل على الذين على الأرض، يغمرُ النور بالمثل المتسكّعين تحت الأرض في الظلمة وظلال الموت. وكما بشّر المخلص الذين على الأرض بالنجاة للأسرى وبالنظر للعميان، وصار للمؤمنين علّةَ خلاصٍ أبدي، ولغير المؤمنين توبيخاً لعصيانهم، كذلك فعل للذين في الجحيم، “لكي تجثو باسم يسوع كل ركبة مما في السماوات وعلى الأرض وتحت الأرض” (فيليبي 2: 10). وبعد أن حلَّ هكذا المعتقلين منذ الدهر، عاد ثانيةً من بين الأموات طارقاً لنا سبيل القيامة.
