إن عقيدة “الكتاب المقدس حصراً” تفترض أيضاً أن المسيحية بحد ذاتها أو بطبيعتها هي مجرد فكرة أو أيديولوجية. فالقول إن الأسفار المقدسة تحتوي على كل ما هو ضروري للإيمان المسيحي والممارسة المسيحية يعني أنه يمكن للكتاب المقدس أن يستوعب كل ما هو ضروري. وهكذا فإن عقيدة “الكتاب المقدس حصراً” تفترض أن المسيحية هي مجرد فكرة إيديولوجية. بحسب هذه الفكرة فإن الإنجيل يحتوي على أفكار وجملة من التعاليم، وهكذا يمكن لأي إنسان أن يلتقط الكتاب، لأن الكتاب ذاتي التفسير، يمكن لهذا الإنسان أن يقتطف منه أي شيء يحتاجه للإيمان والممارسة المسيحية. ولأن الكتاب المقدس يحتوي على كل شيء ضروري لخلاص المسيحي، فإنه يمكن للمسيحي الاستغناء عن الكنيسة وتقليدها ولاهوتها وتفسيرها وحياتها وشهادتها، إلخ. وهكذا تستحيل المسيحية إلى جملة من العقائد والتعاليم والأفكار.
الرد: المسيحية بالنسبة للكنيسة الأرثوذكسية هي حياة جديدة وليست مجرد ديانة جديدة، لأن المسيحية هي الحياة في المسيح، وهو الذي يعيش في المعتمدين باسمه. إذاً ليست المسيحية جملة تفاسير وتعاليم وعقائد، بل هو وحدة عضوية بالمسيح يسوع من خلال جسده الكنيسة المقدسة (33).
