Numerous documents tell about the miracle of the Holy Light in Jerusalem, and a large number of historians and travelers have discussed it, including but not limited to Al-Biruni and Ibn Al-Atheer. The two expressed their astonishment at the appearance of the holy light on the Christian holiday in Jerusalem. Other documents also tell of Prince Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi’s attendance at this celebration and his awe at what he saw. The oldest texts describing this event date back to the fourth century. While miracles are generally characterized by the impossibility of determining their time, place, and conditions for their occurrence, the time, place, and course of their occurrence are known for this miracle. With the development of means of transportation in modern times, its flame was transported to some Orthodox countries to be used in celebrating Easter prayers, or what we call “the attack.”
When and where does the miracle of the “Holy Fire” occur annually?
This miracle, which delights and strengthens the souls of Christians, takes place in the Church of the Holy Resurrection in the city of Jerusalem. The miracle occurs every year on Eastern Orthodox Easter.
This miracle occur annually in the spring after the Jewish Passover. Orthodox Easter differs from the Catholic and Protestant churches, depending on a different calculation.
The miracle of the Holy Light emanating from the Holy Sepulcher has occurred annually at the same time and place since the Resurrection of Christ, in the Church of the Resurrection, the holiest place in the entire world, where Christ was crucified, died physically, was buried, and rose from the Holy Sepulcher on the third day, crushing the power of Hell.
Celebrating the emanation of the Holy Light
The church is crowded with a very large number of visitors to the Church of the Holy Resurrection, of all nationalities (Greek, Russian, Romanian, Copts, Syriacs, etc.), in addition to Arab Christians living in the Holy Land, since Holy Friday, waiting for the emanation of the Holy Light.
From the Great and Holy Saturday “Holy Saturday”. From eleven o'clock in the morning, Christians begin singing in loud voices, praising God. This custom dates back to the days of Islamic rule, when Christians were prohibited from performing prayers except inside churches. But we are Christians and we will remain so forever... Amen. The scout teams beat drums and there is a great celebration. Then the ruling authorities pass among these crowds, whose mission is to inspect the Holy Sepulcher and maintain order.
How does the holy light emanate from the tomb of Christ?
I want to quote the words of the Orthodox Patriarch Diodoros, who says: “I kneel before the stone on which the pure body of Christ was placed with piety, and I continue to pray with fear and piety, a prayer that was and still is recited, and then the miracle of the emanation of the holy light (holy fire) occurs from within the sacred stone on which it was placed.” The pure body of Christ.
This holy light has a blue color and then changes to several colors, and this cannot be explained within the limits of human science, because its emanation is like the emergence of clouds from a lake, and it appears as if it were a wet cloud, but it is a holy light.
The appearance of the Holy Light occurs annually in different forms, as it repeatedly fills the room in which the holy tomb of Christ is located. The most important characteristic of the holy light is that it does not burn. I have received this holy light for sixteen years, and it has not burned my beard. It appears as a luminous column, and from it the candles I carry are lit, and then I go out and give the holy light to the Armenian and Coptic bishops, and all those present.”
The holy light lights some of the candles of the pious believers by itself, and illuminates the high, extinguished lamps in front of all those present.
This holy light flies like a dove to all parts of the church, and enters the small churches, illuminating all the lamps.
I want to put the characteristics of the Holy Light into the following points:
- A) It does not burn any part of the body if it falls on it, and this is proof of the divinity of the source and that it has supernatural qualities.
- b) It emerges through the supplications of the Orthodox Patriarch.
- c) He lights the candles of some believers himself, and moves from one side to another to light the lamps in the Holy Church. Many say that they were changed after seeing this holy wonder.
When it appeared the first description of these curiosities?
The first writing about the emanation of the Holy Light in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher appeared in the early fourth century, and authors mention incidents of the emanation of light in the early first century AD. We find this in the writings of Saint John of Damascus and Saint Gregory of Nyssa. They narrate: How the Apostle Peter saw the Holy Light in the Church of the Resurrection, a year after the Resurrection of Christ (in the year 34 AD).
The abbot of a Russian monastery named Daniel narrates in his memoirs, written between the years 1106-1107, an accurate description of this wonder, which he saw while he was in Jerusalem. He describes it: “The Orthodox Patriarch enters the church carrying two candles, and kneels before the stone on which it was placed.” The holy body of Christ, then begins to pray with all piety and fervor, and the holy light emerges from within the stone with a blue spectrum (blue color), and lights the two candles of the Patriarch, and then lights the lamps and candles of the believers. This miracle that occurs annually is accompanied by ancient liturgical celebrations dating back to the fourth century. .
The non-Orthodox sects tried to emanate the holy light on their holidays at the hands of their patriarchs, but to no avail at all. I will list for you historically well-known attempts:
- 1) In the twelfth century, priests from the Roman-Latin Church expelled the Orthodox Patriarch and prayed for the emanation of the Holy Light, but the light did not emanate on their hands, because God punished them.
- 2) The ultimate miracle occurred in the year 1579 with the Armenians, when the Armenians paid money to the Turks to agree to the Armenian Patriarch’s entry into the Holy Tomb so that the light could emerge. During that time, the Orthodox Patriarch was standing sadly with his flock at the door near the column that split in the middle and from which the holy light emerged. As you can see in this picture.
A Muslim muezzin who was nearby saw this, so he left the Islamic religion and followed the Christian religion. There is also a Turkish military man who witnessed this miracle as he was standing on a building near the gate of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, so he shouted at the top of his voice: “Christ is God” and threw himself from a height of 10 meters, and no harm occurred to him. His footprints were imprinted on the stones that became soft like wax, and they bear witness to this miracle despite the Turks trying to erase them, but they could not, so they burned this martyr near the gate of the Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem. Then the Greeks collected his bones and placed them in the Monastery of Panagia, and his bones remained until The nineteenth century AD, and it spreads a pleasant scent.
This incident occurred during the reign of Sultan Murad V, and during the reign of Patriarch Sophronius V. The column and the crack in it still bear witness to this marvel to this day. Orthodox visitors kiss this column when entering the Church of the Holy Resurrection.
Muslims who deny the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ have placed obstacles in the way of this miracle. There is a well-known Muslim historian called Al-Biruni who told that a Muslim ruler placed wicks made of copper instead of the wicks that burned to thwart the miracle, but when the holy light emanated, the copper wires were illuminated, in glory to the Holy Trinity. .Amen
There is also an English historian called “Gutierre Venusif” who described what happened in the year 1187. Sultan Saladin wanted to attend this religious celebration (the emanation of the holy light), even though he was not a Christian, and at that time the holy light descended from above unawares. But Saladin’s assistants, the “Muslim leader,” said that the holy light came down by an artificial means, and then the lamp was extinguished, but it lit up again. But Saladin extinguished the lamp again, but it also lit up, and then he shouted, saying: “Yes, I will die soon, or I will lose Jerusalem.”
Why is this wonder not known in Western European countries?
Protestants do not believe in miracles. But the Catholic Church believes in its tradition of miracles, but this miracle is not known because there is a church policy. Therefore, the celebration takes place annually without official Catholic participation.
The authenticity and authenticity of this marvel:
Many people claim that this miracle is a trick used by the Orthodox to promote their propaganda, and they believe that the Patriarch possesses a device for illumination inside the Holy Sepulcher. However, the inspection of the (non-Christian) ruling authorities proved the opposite of the claim. We believe in this holy miracle through which he strengthens our God and our Lord.” To Jesus Christ be glory” who believe in him and in his resurrection forever. Amen
Those who translated: Brother Ibrahim George Tannous and Sister Bertha Grace Boutros, a teacher of Christian education and the Arabic language, whose testimony we will include below, in which she says: “When I was a teacher at Al-Eizariya School (the Russian Orthodox School), Archimandrite Theodosius accompanied me, as he was the president. At the Greek Orthodox monastery in Al-Eizariya (a city close to Jerusalem), and when we arrived at the Church of the Resurrection where the Holy Sepulchre is located, we stood and waited until the celebration began, and then I saw with my own eyes the holy light emanating from the holes in the surrounding walls, where the body of Christ was placed, and I also saw the candles of the waiting believers. It lights up on its own, and I will never forget this experience for the rest of my life, and how happy I was at this strange sight.”

Chapter: Mentioning the Syriac months, describing their agreement with the Arab months, the number of days of the year, and knowing the seasons, their months, and the days of each month
Chapter: The secret of naming the festival
Tishreen is thirty-one days, and in it the festival takes place, and between Nowruz and the festival there are one hundred and sixty-nine days. For the Persians, the meaning of the festival is that they had a king in ancient times, one of the Persian kings, whose oppression spread among the people’s elite and common people, and he was called Mahr, and the months were named after the kings. It was said: Mihramah, and the meaning of Mah: It is the month, and that king’s life was long and his power increased, so he died in the middle of this month, and he was Mihramah, so that day on which he died was called Mahrāḥ, and its interpretation is the soul of Mahr is gone, because the Persians advance in their language what the Arabs delay in their entire nation. A, and this is the language of Allahu, which is the first Persian, and the people of Marwat in Iraq and other Persian cities make this day the first day of winter. He changed the furniture, tools, and many clothes, and for the fifth of it - which is October - The Feast of the Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem, and on this day Christians from all over the world gather. And fire descends on them from heaven There, candles are lit, and a great group of Muslims gather there to look at the Eid, and olive leaves are uprooted there, and Christians have stories in it, and this fire has a nice trick and a great secret, and we have mentioned the trick to that in our book translated as the Book of Issues and Experiences. Chapter: The mandate of Commander Hamid bin Mulham, mentioned first, in the year 399
It was said in the reports of Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah that in the year 398 he ordered the demolition of the garbage sale in Jerusalem, which is a sale for the Christians that is venerable in their souls and they venerate it, and the reason for that was the related demolition of churches and the sale in Egypt and the Levant and the commitment of the people of the protected people. What was said was that the custom was in effect with the exodus of the Christians in Egypt. Every year, during the raids, they go to Jerusalem to attend their Passover in a garbage sale, and they went out in the year 398 according to their schedule for that, pretending to be very beautiful, just like the pilgrims do when they go out. Al-Hakim Khatkin Al-Adidi asked the preacher, while he was in his presence, about the matter of the Christians in their intention of this sale, and what they believed in it, and he described its character. And what they called for it, and Khatkin was aware of its matter because of his frequent visits to the Levant and its repeated occurrences in letters from Al-Hakim to its governors. He said: This is a pledge of allegiance near the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Christians venerate it in the best way, and many of them make pilgrimages to it on the Passover from all countries, and perhaps the Roman kings and the great patriarchs came to it in disguise and brought money, paradise, and clothes to it. And curtains and furnishings, and they fashioned lamps, crosses, and utensils of gold and silver for them, and from ancient times and modern times there was a great thing gathered in it, as great as its various types. So if they attended the day of Easter in it, and showed their bishops, and erected their crosses, and established their prayers and their laws, then this is what enters their minds and creates suspicion in their hearts. They hang the lamps in the altar house, and they use trickery to spread the fire to them using elderberry oil and thyme. It is in its nature that the fire occurs in it with the oil of the lily, and it has a bright light and brilliant bloom. They use a trick that they use between each lamp and the next, with an elongated iron like the shape of a thread, connected from one to the other, and they coat it with elderberry oil in a way that hides it from sight. Until the thread runs to all the lanterns, when they prayed and the time for descending came, the door of the altar was opened, and they had in them that the cradle of Jesus, peace be upon him, and that he was taken up to heaven from it, and they entered and lit many candles, and a lot of the breath of creation gathered in the house, from which the place was protected, and some of the people reached the point of approaching the fire from The thread is attached to it and moves between the lamps from one to another, igniting all, and whoever watches this will appreciate it Fire has come down from heaven Those lanterns caught fire. When the governor heard this explanation, he summoned Bishr ibn Sur, the clerk of the construction, and ordered him to write a letter to the governor of Ramla and to Ahmad ibn Yaqoub al-Da’i, intending to go to Bayt al-Maqdis, and to accompany the nobles, judges, witnesses, and dignitaries of the city, and to descend on Bayt al-Maqdis, and go to a garbage sale, open it, plunder it, take everything in it, cancel it, and clear its trace. The order in this matter is prepared by them, with the lines in it, and they carry it out to his presence. The letter reached them, so they went to do what was presented to them. The Christians in Egypt knew what had been mentioned above in this matter, so they hastened to pledge allegiance to the patriarch, informed him of the situation, warned him, and warned him. So he demonstrated to bring out the silver, gold, jewels, and clothes that were in it. After that, Al-Hakim’s companions arrived and surrounded it and ordered it to be plundered, and they took what was left of it. His power was great, and its buildings were demolished and stone by stone was uprooted, and he wrote in that report and the lines were written in it as it was drawn and conveyed to the ruler. This news spread in Egypt, and the Muslims interpreted it and prayed for the ruler with great supplication for what he had done, and those who reported to him raised the concerns of the people about this situation upon him, so he rejoiced in this and proceeded to demolish what was in the works. Sales and churches. Then things happened, denouncing such actions, pity for the mosques and mosques, and the sights in other areas, and actions of demolishing them and intending to do the same to them, so the matter stopped at this point, and they made a great supplication for the ruler for what he had done, and the people of the news conveyed to him what people felt about this situation, so he rejoiced in this and proceeded to demolish what he had done. It is in the business of selling and churches. Then things happened, disapproving of such actions, pity for the mosques and mosques, and the sights in all areas, and actions of demolishing them, and intending to do something similar to them, so the matter stopped with this determination.

Chapter: Then the year three hundred and ninety-eight entered
In this year: The news came that Al-Hakim, the owner of Egypt, demolished a garbage sale. This sale is adjacent to the Holy House and is of great importance to the Christians. Every year, they would go out from the places in Al-Ammariat to Jerusalem to attend their Passover, and perhaps the king of the Romans and his great patriarchs came in disguise and carried money to it. And clothes, curtains, and furnishings, and they fashioned lamps and utensils from gold and silver, and great wealth was accumulated in them over time. When they gather on the day of Easter, they show off their adornments and set up their crosses. The people hang lamps in the altar and put olive oil in them. They place between each two lamps something like a thread of iron connected and paint it with balm oil. Some people bring a string of it to the fire, so that those present do not know, and they light it, and it is transferred from the lamps and ignites the whole thing. Those who attended thought it was Fire came down from the sky They become louder and louder, When this situation was described to the governor, he submitted to write to the governor of Ramla and to Ahmad bin Yaqoub, calling for them to go to Jerusalem and take with them the nobles, the judges, the witnesses, and the dignitaries of the country, and to conduct a garbage sale and make it permissible for the public to plunder it and take what is in it, and to propose to have it annulled and relieved of its effect.
The news reached the Christians, so they took out the jewelry, clothes, gold, and silver that were in the pledge of allegiance, and what remained was looted and demolished.

Chapter: Complete mention of the speech of the King of the Germans and the trick that the Marquis did
When the king of the Germans settled in Antioch, he took it from its owner and ruled over it, and he was in his hands there executing his orders. He took it from him through treachery and deceit, and deposited it in his treasures and left it on the twenty-fifth of Rajab, heading towards Akka with his armies and crowds on the road to Latakia, all the way to Tripoli, and he had marched there. From the Frankish camp, he was met by the Marquis of Tyre. He was one of the most resourceful and most powerful of them, and he was the basis for agitating the crowds from across the sea. This is because he depicted Jerusalem on a piece of paper, and depicted in it an image of the garbage to which they make pilgrimage and venerate its importance It contains the dome of the tomb of Christ, in which he was buried after his crucifixion, according to their claim. That tomb is the origin of their Hajj, and it is the one they believe. Light descends on it every year On every one of their holidays.

Chapter Nine: On proving the obvious and evident scandals of Christians and Jews
For Christians, the feast of Jerusalem is famous, known as the Feast of Light. They make pilgrimage to it every day of the year. And if they gathered with him Fire came out from the cavity of the dome Then it clung to the lantern's wick, and it burned quickly, and the voices became abundant and full of supplications and supplications, so that no one would doubt, nor would the immersion doubt, that this was a sign that came down from heaven, indicating the validity of their religion.. The trick to this is that a man is hiding in the eave of the dome from within, which is very secretive. If that is the time when their meeting is completed and the Bible and the books are read; The man sent a candle of oil fire, which blew on a thread smeared with balm oil, and the slurry began to ignite. Then they chant supplications.
Our scholars said: Some of the governors of Jerusalem became aware of this, so he went to them (2/68/b) on that holiday and wanted to expose them by revealing the story, so they offered him money, but he was satisfied with it from them and left. It is known that if this had been light, the lamps would not have been lit from it. The attribute of fire is distortion and the attribute of light is radiance only. If it were descending from the sky, as the Christians claim, it would have been seen outside the dome. The evidence of their lies is that that spot resided in the hands of the Jews for a long time, then God brought Islam, and nothing of this kind was seen {Abu Bakr al-Tartushi (474 AH) mentioned this trick to the Christians, and Ibn al-Qayyim quoted it from him in Ighayat al-Lahfan, p. 619, and the author quoted it from the book Maqami` Hamat pp. 75, 76, 272.}.

One of their many tricks The fire that their common people believe comes down from the sky During their Eid, it was rubbish. It is a trick that more than one of the Muslims and Christians witnessed, and they saw it with their own eyes. It was a manufactured fire, with which they misled their common people into thinking that it had come down from the sky and that they were seeking blessings from it. Rather, it was the work of a shop owner and a fraud.
Similar to this are many of the tricks of the Christians. All of the supernatural things that the Christians who changed the religion of Christ have are either satanic or impossible.

The fortieth class
Incidents of the year three hundred and ninety-eight:
In it, the ruler demolished a garbage sale that was in Jerusalem, and it is of great importance to the Christians, and they make pilgrimages to it, and it contains an excessive amount of gold, curtains, instruments, and utensils, and during the Eid they used to show off their decorations. They set up crosses, and hung lanterns in the altar house, and put mercury oil in them, and between the two lamps they put a continuous silk thread, and they used to paint it with balm oil. Some of the monks would approach, and he would attach fire to a thread of it from a place where no one could see it, and it would move between the lamps, and everyone would lie down and say: Light came down from the sky So I light it, and they get uproarious. When this situation was described to the ruler, he wrote to the governor of Ramla, and to Ahmed bin Yaqoub, urging him to go to Jerusalem, take the judges, nobles, and leaders, and descend upon this church, and permit the public to plunder it, then destroy it to the ground. The Christians sensed it, so they took out the jewels, gold, and stores in it. What remained was looted and demolished.

In it: The ruler ordered the destruction of a rubbish, which is the Christian church in Jerusalem, and made available to the public the money, luggage, and other things in it, and the reason for that was The slander that Christians resort to on the day of Easter fire Which they deceive, and it is what they delude their ignorant people that it is I came down from heaven, Rather, it is made with balm oil on apricot threads, and patches anointed with sulfur and other things, with the delicate craftsmanship that is popular among the masses among them and the common people, and they still use it in that particular place.

Part Two >>> Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah >>> in the year three hundred and ninety-eight
In it, the Christians went out from Egypt to Jerusalem to attend Easter with a garbage bag, as is their custom every year, with great beauty, just as Muslims go out for Hajj. Al-Hakim Khutkin, the guest, Al-Addi, asked one of his commanders about that, because he knew about the garbage matter. He said, “This is a pledge of allegiance that the Christians venerate, and pilgrims to it from all countries, and kings come to it and great sums of money are carried to it.” Clothes, curtains, mattresses, lamps, crosses made of gold and silver, and utensils of that, and of that, are great things.
If it is Easter day, and the Christians gather with rubbish, and crosses are erected, and lamps are hung in the altar, they attempt to bring fire to it by using elderberry oil and mercury oil, and it produces a bright light that whoever sees it will think that it is... Fire came down from the sky.
Al-Hakim denied this and went to Bishr ibn Surin, the clerk of the construction, and he wrote to Ahmad ibn Yaqoub, urging him to go to Jerusalem and demolish the garbage that the people had plundered until its traces were removed, so he did so.
Then he ordered the demolition of the shops and churches in his kingdom. He feared that the Christians would demolish the Muslim mosques in his country, so he refrained from doing so.

What does science say about this miracle?:
A Russian scientist records the first complete absence of any electrical leaks (visible or hidden) when the Holy Light descends on Holy Saturday.
Moscow, February 17, Interfax 2009 - In the section dedicated to “Christianity and Science” in the 17th issue of the educational Nativity readings conducted on Tuesday in Moscow, the results of a test carried out by a Russian scientist on Holy Sunday 2008 in the Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem were published.
The head of the Institute of Atomic Energy, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Andrei Volkov, spoke about his attempt to measure low-frequency, long-wave radio transmission signals in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem at the time of the annual Holy Day.
The scientist used machines specially prepared for this test. The world waited about six and a half hours for light to come. The analysis of what was reported took several months.
Volkov considers the “absolute wonder” to be the difference between the signals he received on the day of light and the day before. In addition, this scientist points out that the analyzes conducted on the crack in the column, towards the entrance to the church, indicate that the crack cannot result from an electrical leak.
One of Volkov's rivals, the superior demolition mechanics scientist Yevgeny Morozov, arrived at the same results.
Although Volkov believes that measurements taken once do not constitute sufficient evidence for serious scientific results, he bears full responsibility for his results and is ready to provide them if requested.
Scientist Volkov said: “If you ask me whether there is a miracle or not, I will tell you that I do not know.”
The Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchal Committee, a lecturer at Saint John Russian Orthodox University, Alexander Moskovsky, regarding this miraculous event, issued the following statement: “Volkov made a scientific breakthrough when he carried out the first serious, reliable, and responsible scientific research on the Holy Light.”
It is noteworthy that the holy light appears on the tomb of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem every year for centuries, shortly before Orthodox Easter. Orthodox Christians believe that the miracle of the Holy Light indicates the truth of the orthodox Orthodox faith, and rebukes those who do not believe in the existence of a God.
