يرى الدارسون استشهادها بين العامين 307-308م وكان حاكم قيصرية آنذاك أوربانوس وقد فتك بالمسيحيين فتكاً عظيماً على عهد الإمبراطور ذيوكليسيانوس الذي بدوره أشعل اضطهاداً عظيماً ضد المسيحيين. كانت هذه الفتاة من مدينة صور، وقد وجدت في مدينة قيصرية في نفس يوم الرب وهو يوم عيد القيامة، و كانت تشجع المساجين المسيحيين المساقين إلى الموت وتسألهم أن يذكروها أمام الرب يسوع وهم الذين شهدوا لملكوته أمام كرسي القضاء الظالم.
وحالما فعلت ذلك ألقى الجند القبض عليها واستاقوها إلى الوالي الطاغية فانقض عليها بشراسة وعذّبها عذاباً قاسياً، ولكن عنفه عجز عن سحقها أو كسر مقاومتها وإيمانها بالرب يسوع. وداعتها وهدوءها كانا أعنف من غيظه وشراسته. فأمر بطرحها في البحر.
يُذكر أن إكرام القديسة ثيودوسيا شمل الكنيسة شرقاً وغرباً. رفاتها بقيت وقتاً طويلاً في القسطنطينية ثم انتقلت إلى البندقية. وقد توزعت رفاتها في أماكن عدة من العالم.
تعيد لها كنيستنا الأرثوذكسية في 29 أيار الذي يوافق نقل رفاتها إلى القسطنطينية والبندقية. وأيضاً يُحتفل بعيدها في يوم 3 نيسان.
