The Small Paraclean Litany
It is recited in times of distress
Priest: Blessed be God our God at all times, now and at all times, and forever and ever
The choir: Amen!
The applicant recites (Psalm 142)
O Lord, listen to my prayer and give ear to my request with your truth. Answer me with your justice and do not enter into judgment with your servant, for not every living person will be pure before you. For the enemy has persecuted my soul, and has afflicted my life on earth, and has made me sit in darkness as one that has been dead for ages, and has afflicted my spirit, and my heart is troubled within me. I have remembered the days of old, and have rejoiced in all your works, and meditated on the works of your hands. I extended my hands to you and my soul to you like a land that does not rain. Hurry and answer me, O Lord, for my spirit is exhausted. Do not turn your face from me, so that I become like those falling into the pit. Make me listen to your mercy in the morning, for I have put my trust in you. Show me, O Lord, the way in which I should walk, for to you I have lifted up my soul. Save me from my enemies, O Lord, for I have taken refuge in you. Teach me. To do your will, for you are my God. Your good Spirit guides me in a right land. For the sake of your name, O Lord, you revive me. With your justice, you bring my soul out of sorrow, and with your mercy, you uproot my enemies and destroy all those who grieve my soul, because I am your servant.
Then the choir sings the fourth tune
God the Lord has appeared to us. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
He repeats it after each of the following verses:
1. Confess to the Lord and call on His holy name.
2. All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I defeated them.
3. This is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes.
Then these troparions are on the fourth tone.
To the Mother of God, let us, wretched and miserable sinners, run with care and diligence, and kneel before her in repentance, crying out from the depths of our souls: O Lady, support us and have mercy on us. Hasten, for we have perished from the multitude of sins. Do not send your servants away disappointed, for you alone are our hope.
Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
(The troparion is repeated for the saint of the church)
Now and forever and forever, Amen.
O Mother of God, we who are unworthy are not silent about speaking of your great works, for if you had not stood up to intercede for us, who would have saved us from such hardships and distresses, or who would have kept us free until now? We would not have departed from you, O Lady, for you always save your servants from all kinds of hardships.
Psalm 50
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your great mercy, and according to the multitude of your compassions, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my iniquity, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned, and done evil in your sight. That you may be justified when you say, and prevail when you judge. Behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother bear me. For you have loved the truth, and have made clear to me the hidden and hidden things of your wisdom. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be clean. Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me hear gladness and joy, and my humble bones shall rejoice. Turn away your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a pure spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Grant me joy. Uphold me with your salvation and your governing spirit; I will teach the transgressors your ways, and the ungodly shall return to you. Deliver me from bloodshed, O God, the God of my salvation; and my tongue shall rejoice in your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise. For if you desired sacrifice, now I would have given it. You do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifice of God is a broken spirit; a contrite and humble heart God will not despise. Promote, O Lord, by your journey Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then you will take pleasure in the sacrifice of righteousness, offering and burnt offerings. Then they will offer bullocks upon your altar.

Wisdom, let us stand upright and listen to the Holy Bible... Peace be upon you all.
A noble chapter from the Gospel of Saint Luke the Evangelist, the Evangelist and the Pure Disciple (1:39-46)
In those days Mary arose and went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah, and entered the house of Zechariah, and greeted Elizabeth. And it came to pass, when Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, that the babe leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and cried out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For as soon as the voice of your greeting reached mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. Blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord. Then Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has regarded the lowliness of his handmaid. For, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed, for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And Mary remained with her about three months, and then returned to her own home.

O most holy Lady, do not entrust us to human intercession, but accept the supplications of us, your servants, for we are in distress and sorrow. We cannot bear the bows of the devils, and we have no shelter, nor do we know where to turn, we wretched ones, attacked from every side, and we have no consolation but you. O Lady of the world, hope and intercessor of the faithful, do not turn away from our supplications, but do what suits us.
No one hastens to you and goes away disgraced before you, O pure Virgin, Mother of God, but he asks for grace and receives the gift according to what suits his request.
O Virgin Mother of God, you are the comfort of the afflicted and the healer of the sick. Save your people and your city, O peace of the warriors, security and tranquility for those upon whom rain falls, and you alone are the supporter of the faithful.
Then the priest announces:
O God, save your people and bless your inheritance, visit your world with mercy and compassion, raise up the status of the pious Orthodox Christians and send down upon us your rich mercies, through the intercessions of our all-pure Lady, the Mother of God and ever-virgin Mary, and by the power of the precious and life-giving Cross. And by the requests of the honorable and bodiless heavenly powers, and the supplications of the noble and glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, and the honorable and all-praised holy apostles, and our holy fathers, teachers of the world, the venerable archpriests Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, John Chrysostom, Athanasius and Cyril, archbishops of Alexandria, and our holy father Spyridon the wonderworker, and our holy father Nicholas, archbishop of Myra, the wonderworker, and the righteous saints, the forefathers of Christ Joachim and Anna, and Saint (the owner of the day), and all your saints, we beseech you, O Lord of all mercy, so hear us sinners who implore you and have mercy on us.

Then the priest incenses the altar, the people, or the place where the Paraclesis is held.
While we chant these praises
O thou who art higher than the heavens, and more splendid than the sun-lamps, who savest us from damnation, and Lady of the world, we honour with hymns to thee.
O full of grace, because of our many sins our bodies have become sick and our souls have become weak. To you we flee, O hope of the afflicted, you are our eyes.

May the lips of the unbelievers who do not worship your venerable icon, the guide of the blind, depicted by the all-pure evangelist Luke, be silenced.

Here the last troparia and exapstralia are chanted.
In the second tune
O righteous one, protector of all who take refuge in faith in your dear shelter, for we sinners, bent over by the multitude of sins, have no permanent mediator with God in times of adversity and sorrow except you, O Mother of the Most High God. Therefore, we bow down to you in worship, so save your servants from every adversity.
You are the joy of all who are grieved, the support of the oppressed, the strength of the afflicted, the comfort of the strangers, the crutch of the blind, the visitation of the sick, the protection and support of the oppressed, and the help of the orphans. O Mother of the Most High God, we beseech you, O pure one, hasten the salvation of your servants.
