Irene, the great saint and martyr from Magedon

Irene, the great saint and martyr from MagedonWe do not know when Saint Irene lived or when she was martyred. Some of them place it in the first century and some in the fourth century (the Synaxarium places its rest in the year 315). As for Magedon, the city, we do not know where it is. Some people would like to place it in Macedonia or Thrace, while others would like to place it in mainland Anatolia or Persia. However, it seems that Irene was originally a pagan and then converted to Christ. It was said that her parents were notables, King Kynios, and that she had a special teacher who guided her to Christ. It also seems that she was baptized and vowed her virginity to Jesus Christ, and she converted her parents and many others.

She was persecuted for her faith, but the Lord was with her. It was said that she crowned her martyrdom with the cutting off of her head, and it was said that she entered a cave and stayed there, and no traces of her body were left after that. It was also said that this happened in Ephesus.

Some of her relics are in the Bronta Monastery on Samos, a Greek island, and some are in the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian on Patmos.

Troparia in the fourth tune
Your ewe, Jesus, cries out to you with a loud voice, saying: O my circumcised, I long for you and struggle seeking you, and I will be crucified and buried with you through your baptism, and I will suffer for you so that I may reign with you, and I will die for you so that I may live in you. But as a blameless sacrifice, you will receive with eagerness what was sacrificed for you. Through her intercessions, since You are merciful, save our souls.

Qandaq with the third tune
You have been adorned with the virtues of virginity, O Irene the Virgin, and through struggle you have become dazzling in beauty, as you have been tanned by the blood shed from you, and you have refuted the error of atheism, and for this reason you have accepted the rewards of victory from the hand of your Creator.
